Reno CyberKnife presents the American Cancer Society Facts and Figures 2013 annual report outlining the estimated numbers of new cancer cases and deaths in 2013 as well as current cancer incidence, mortality, and survival statistics and information on cancer symptoms, risk factors, early detection and treatment.
2. Cancer By The Numbers
• Cancer is the second leading cause of death in the US,
exceeded only by heart disease, accounting for 1 of every 4
deaths.
• About 77% of all cancers are diagnosed in persons 55 years of
age or older.
• About 5% of all cancers are strongly hereditary.
• Lung cancer is the leading cause of cancer-related deaths in
both men and women. Tobacco use accounts for at least 87%
