PREPARE TO FIGHT
FEVER
What is fever?
 Fever is a common manifestation of all
infections.
 Fever, pyrexia or controlled hyperthermia is
when a human's body temperature goes
above the normal range of 36-37C (98-100F)
 An elevated body temperature (fever) is one
of the ways our immune system attempts to
combat an infection.
INFECTIONS
 Infection is the invasion of a host's bodily tissues
by disease-causing organisms their
multiplication, and the reaction of host tissues to
these organisms and their toxins .
 Infections are caused by the invasion of
microorganisms such as viruses, bacteria, fungi etc.
 Human beings have innate power to fight
infections by their immune system
FEVER MECHANISM
Pre- Vedic period
In pre –vedic period, people
believed that krimies/Bhoothas
(microbes ) are the main culprit
behind infections and advocated
methods for killing them.
But evolution of Ayurveda
(complete science of life)
discovered that it is only the
secondary cause .
Ayurveda identified the
primary cause of fever as “host
factors”
Endogenous pyrogens
Leukocytes are the chief immune
fighters in the cells which invade
the exogenous pyrogens.
Exogenous pyrogens (pathogens)
activate the endogenous
pyrogens only when the
leukocyte barrier is destroyed or
weak.
Ayurveda gives emphasis to
strengthening of the defence
barrier (Ojus) to destroy the
pathogens
When pathogens are destroyed
by the barrier (Ojus), there is no
fever .
Vyadhiprathirodhitwa
 Host defence mechanism is technically called as “
Vyadhiprathirodhitwa” in Ayurveda.
 It is of three types :
Sahaja – That which is acquired from your parents .
Kalaja – That is acquired in course of time in your
life in accordance to your age and maturation.
Yuktikritha – That which is acquired by your diet
and regimen .
All these are crucial determinants of your
chance of fever- 100 times more than the
mosquito bites!!!!
DEFENCE FIRE (OJUS)
Strong host immune responses
(physical barriers, phagocytic
cells ,complement cells etc
strongly defend the entry of
any microbe.
Once any microbes are in, this
“defence fire” within the
tissues gets activated and
destroy them on the spot.
 It engulfs the microbes and
their toxins , destroy them and
send out through cellular
drainage .
IMMUNE FIRE COOKS PATHOGENS
When
pathogens(disease
causing micro-
organisms) attack
the body, body's
immune system (
defence fire) cooks
(metabolises) them
naturally .
Assessment of your immune fire
 Check yourself for your immune fire .
 The chief manifestation of powerful immune
response is your timely appetite .
 Excellent appetite reflects excellent immune
resistance.
 Sudden loss of wellbeing, unexplainable tiredness
, lack of appetite and alteration in bowel movement
are the warning signals shown by an upset
immune system .
Host factors
 Host factors (Factors with in your body) are
quadruple times more important than the
microbial factor in making you “infected”.
The chances of your infection are extremely low:
 if you maintain a very good timely appetite .
 If you play out door games regularly.
 If you eat very less/no junk food .
 If you take appropriate immuno enhancing medicines as
per the medical advice.
 If you get regular bowel movement .
What determines your chance of infection?
You need not always fall sick, just by getting
surrounded by microbes
DO YOU KNOW ??????????
You are more prone to infection when :
 Your appetite is low for some unknown reason.
 Your digestion and metabolism are impaired .
 Your cellular drainage is blocked and excretion is slow.
 Your external barriers (skin and mucous membrane ) are
weak
 You are on any immunosuppressant therapies .
 Your immune system is weak.
 Your natural flora in the gut is destroyed .
Why microbes are blamed ??!
 Microbes could be the external initiators of fever .
 They enter the body cells and release toxins to kill
cells.
 The toxins could damage blood vessels.
 Cause ischemic process.
Any of these could happen only in those
indiduals who have very poor host defence.
PURPOSE OF FEVER
The purpose of a fever
is to raise the body's
temperature(internal
metabolism) enough to
kill the pathogens
Attack the pyrogens, not temperature
 The outcome of fever is determined by the extent of
host defence mechanisms to eradicate the fever
circumstance .
 Pyrogens are the cause of increased temperature
and hence they have to be destroyed at the earliest by
body’s innate immune mechanisms .
 Pyrogen destruction will lead to enhancement of well
being , onset of excellent appetite , lightness in the body
and profuse sweating .
THANKS TO BODY’S INNATE INTELLIGENCE
SUPPRESSION OF TEMPERATURE
Suppression or masking of
temperature will weaken
the innate immune
mechanisms and besides
strengthen the virulence of
microbes.
Temperature stay
suppressed, but the grade
of infection is enhanced.
Infection can turn out to be
fatal .
Bitter.. but true
Paracetamol only adjusts the
thermostat mechanism in
hypothalamus and does not even
touch the pyrogens .
Antibiotics kill only certain bacteria
(not virus) .
Antibiotics suppress pyrogen
fighting immune mechanisms and
could result in superimposed
infections .
Fever treatment in Modern
Medicine targets at killing
microbes and not at patient
recovery
But fever needs fast reversal
 Fever need not be prolonged to kill microbes.
 Fever is protective, but extensive fever cause
dehydration and weakness .
 Ayurvedic scientific treatment guidelines
advocate to kill the pyrogens by supporting
the body’s immune mechanisms .
BRILLIANT FEVER CURE
 Ayurveda gives prime importance to metabolise
all pyrogens irrespective of their type .
 There are specific Evidence Based Drug
therapies generally against the pyrogens and
specifically against their released toxins.
 Ayurveda has brilliant clinical methodologies to
track the fever even before it manifests .
 When any infective fever manifests , accurate Fever
first aid in Ayurveda eradicates it within 24- 48
hours.
Just before any infective fever
 Loss of appetite .
 Loss of taste .
 Excessive tiredness and heaviness EVEN
AFTER REST .
 Head ache and body ache.
 Constipation .
 Body Temperature might stay normal.

Ayurvedic Fever Treatment Explained

  • 1. DR.REMYA KRISHNAN.MD(AY), PHD Associate professor & HOD , Dept of Clinical Pharmacology, Rajiv gandhi Ayurveda Medical college, Mahe PREPARE TO FIGHT FEVER
  • 2. What is fever?  Fever is a common manifestation of all infections.  Fever, pyrexia or controlled hyperthermia is when a human's body temperature goes above the normal range of 36-37C (98-100F)  An elevated body temperature (fever) is one of the ways our immune system attempts to combat an infection.
  • 3. INFECTIONS  Infection is the invasion of a host's bodily tissues by disease-causing organisms their multiplication, and the reaction of host tissues to these organisms and their toxins .  Infections are caused by the invasion of microorganisms such as viruses, bacteria, fungi etc.  Human beings have innate power to fight infections by their immune system
  • 5. Pre- Vedic period In pre –vedic period, people believed that krimies/Bhoothas (microbes ) are the main culprit behind infections and advocated methods for killing them. But evolution of Ayurveda (complete science of life) discovered that it is only the secondary cause . Ayurveda identified the primary cause of fever as “host factors”
  • 6. Endogenous pyrogens Leukocytes are the chief immune fighters in the cells which invade the exogenous pyrogens. Exogenous pyrogens (pathogens) activate the endogenous pyrogens only when the leukocyte barrier is destroyed or weak. Ayurveda gives emphasis to strengthening of the defence barrier (Ojus) to destroy the pathogens When pathogens are destroyed by the barrier (Ojus), there is no fever .
  • 7. Vyadhiprathirodhitwa  Host defence mechanism is technically called as “ Vyadhiprathirodhitwa” in Ayurveda.  It is of three types : Sahaja – That which is acquired from your parents . Kalaja – That is acquired in course of time in your life in accordance to your age and maturation. Yuktikritha – That which is acquired by your diet and regimen . All these are crucial determinants of your chance of fever- 100 times more than the mosquito bites!!!!
  • 8. DEFENCE FIRE (OJUS) Strong host immune responses (physical barriers, phagocytic cells ,complement cells etc strongly defend the entry of any microbe. Once any microbes are in, this “defence fire” within the tissues gets activated and destroy them on the spot.  It engulfs the microbes and their toxins , destroy them and send out through cellular drainage .
  • 9. IMMUNE FIRE COOKS PATHOGENS When pathogens(disease causing micro- organisms) attack the body, body's immune system ( defence fire) cooks (metabolises) them naturally .
  • 10. Assessment of your immune fire  Check yourself for your immune fire .  The chief manifestation of powerful immune response is your timely appetite .  Excellent appetite reflects excellent immune resistance.  Sudden loss of wellbeing, unexplainable tiredness , lack of appetite and alteration in bowel movement are the warning signals shown by an upset immune system .
  • 11. Host factors  Host factors (Factors with in your body) are quadruple times more important than the microbial factor in making you “infected”. The chances of your infection are extremely low:  if you maintain a very good timely appetite .  If you play out door games regularly.  If you eat very less/no junk food .  If you take appropriate immuno enhancing medicines as per the medical advice.  If you get regular bowel movement .
  • 12. What determines your chance of infection? You need not always fall sick, just by getting surrounded by microbes DO YOU KNOW ?????????? You are more prone to infection when :  Your appetite is low for some unknown reason.  Your digestion and metabolism are impaired .  Your cellular drainage is blocked and excretion is slow.  Your external barriers (skin and mucous membrane ) are weak  You are on any immunosuppressant therapies .  Your immune system is weak.  Your natural flora in the gut is destroyed .
  • 13. Why microbes are blamed ??!  Microbes could be the external initiators of fever .  They enter the body cells and release toxins to kill cells.  The toxins could damage blood vessels.  Cause ischemic process. Any of these could happen only in those indiduals who have very poor host defence.
  • 14. PURPOSE OF FEVER The purpose of a fever is to raise the body's temperature(internal metabolism) enough to kill the pathogens
  • 15. Attack the pyrogens, not temperature  The outcome of fever is determined by the extent of host defence mechanisms to eradicate the fever circumstance .  Pyrogens are the cause of increased temperature and hence they have to be destroyed at the earliest by body’s innate immune mechanisms .  Pyrogen destruction will lead to enhancement of well being , onset of excellent appetite , lightness in the body and profuse sweating .
  • 16. THANKS TO BODY’S INNATE INTELLIGENCE
  • 17. SUPPRESSION OF TEMPERATURE Suppression or masking of temperature will weaken the innate immune mechanisms and besides strengthen the virulence of microbes. Temperature stay suppressed, but the grade of infection is enhanced. Infection can turn out to be fatal .
  • 18. Bitter.. but true Paracetamol only adjusts the thermostat mechanism in hypothalamus and does not even touch the pyrogens . Antibiotics kill only certain bacteria (not virus) . Antibiotics suppress pyrogen fighting immune mechanisms and could result in superimposed infections . Fever treatment in Modern Medicine targets at killing microbes and not at patient recovery
  • 19. But fever needs fast reversal  Fever need not be prolonged to kill microbes.  Fever is protective, but extensive fever cause dehydration and weakness .  Ayurvedic scientific treatment guidelines advocate to kill the pyrogens by supporting the body’s immune mechanisms .
  • 20. BRILLIANT FEVER CURE  Ayurveda gives prime importance to metabolise all pyrogens irrespective of their type .  There are specific Evidence Based Drug therapies generally against the pyrogens and specifically against their released toxins.  Ayurveda has brilliant clinical methodologies to track the fever even before it manifests .  When any infective fever manifests , accurate Fever first aid in Ayurveda eradicates it within 24- 48 hours.
  • 21. Just before any infective fever  Loss of appetite .  Loss of taste .  Excessive tiredness and heaviness EVEN AFTER REST .  Head ache and body ache.  Constipation .  Body Temperature might stay normal.
  • 22. DO NOT MISS THIS STAGE ! If you know this stage , you yourself can reverse the chances of fever . By knowing FEVER SPECIFIC FIRST AID IN AYURVEDA.
  • 23. YOU STAY SAFE BY DOING THIS Adjust the room temperature to normal . Cover your ears . Drink hot water , little by little . Wait for EXCELLENT appetite to come . Eat only kanji and payar (with out oil and with salt and pepper) in accordance to your appetite . Carry on with your routine work (not heavy work) ,but on enough hot water. Take SHADDHARANAM TABLETS once in every 4 hours for 2 days
  • 24. Shaddharanam tablets  Best Evidence Based First Aid medicine in all infective fevers.  First dose at the earliest and seek Medical help  Metabolises the pyrogens effectively and fast.  Clinical evidences show that 95% of all infective fevers get reversed with in 48-72 hours by accurate dosage of Shaddharanam Tablets.
  • 27. FEVER STARTED  START SAFE FOOD !  STOP UNSAFE FOOD !  MINIMISE COOL ATMOSPHERE!  OBSERVE YOURSELF FOR ANY ASSOCIATED COMPLAINTS !  START AYURVEDIC FIRST AID !
  • 28. YOU MUST KNOW  ACCURATE FIRST AID IS THE FIRST MEDICINAL SUPPORT TO YOUR BODY TO FIGHT THE FEVER Timely starting of accurate FIRST AID greatly helps the body for fast recovery from fever .  Accurate First Aid immensely protects you from any fever complications .
  • 29. Do not forget this WHAT NOT ???  Accurate” First medicine” DOES NOT mean that you can do self therapy followingly .  Don’t take any other sort of medicine with the First medicine  Accurate “First Medicine “ DOES NOT mean that you don’t need “fever safe food .”
  • 30. IMPORTANT After starting First Aid , Ayurvedic Medical supervision is compulsory
  • 33. DONT’S  Avoid fan!!  Avoid sponge bath!!  Avoid ice strip on forehead!!
  • 35. CLINICAL EVIDENCE  Rasnadi choorna prevents fever affecting the brain.  Rasnadi churna prevents febrile seizures .  Rasnadi churna facilitates sweating .
