2. Shadows
‘Shadows’ is a name that comes from the
conventions of the genre. It tends to leave the
audience wondering what that shadow in the
corner is.
This is a dark film which intends to scare the
audience with the unknown, and in the
shadows there is darkness leaving the
audience to decide what the being is for
themselves.
3. Synopsis
• An average girl continues to lead her normal life until
she begins to hear noises and eventually begins to see
a black figure.
• The supernatural being which remains un-named
throughout the film remains a shadow mostly through
the film but begins to torment much more frequently
and with much more menace as the film progresses
• Towards the end the girl has gone missing with no
clues to her whereabouts. Her best friend begins to
hear the same noises and the film end when she sees
the same black figure herself.
4. Target Audience
Judging by the target audience of similar films such
as Paranormal Activity and the Amityville horror,
the target audience would probably be males and
females from about 15 to 25. This style of film
would be perfect for young couples to go out and
see a scary movie. Other similar films did not
appeal to anyone really over the age of 25 which
is why we left the target age at this.
It would be an age 15 certificate because contains
scenes not for the feint hearted and would keep
it to the minimum target age group.
5. Conventions of the genre
All paranormal / ghost films have one thing in common:
They are all supposed to leave an impression on your
mind that has you wondering what that shadow in the
corner is.
Most horror films are effective because of the unknown.
By never exposing or naming the mysterious black
figure it leaves the audience to think for themselves
what it could be which leaves them on edge
throughout the film.
Small cast. Other films of this genre tend to not have
more than 2 or 3 heavily featured characters, this
emphasizes the feeling of isolation within the story.
This will filter through to the audience and put them
on edge.
6. SoundScape
• We intend to use a wind up jewelry box for
our main soundtrack in the background. For
example:
The diegetic sound we will to use is:
The gate slamming, footsteps on the stairs
