We examine four bioenergy-based technologies and explore their respective capabilities in producing carbon neutral or carbon negative fuels for transport. Of the four biomass-to-liquids (BTL) options, we find that BECCU (bioenergy with carbon capture and utilisation) systems, under a strict assumption of carbon-free energy, have equal capability to decarbonise the transport system than BECCS (bioenergy with carbon capture and storage). We also notice that sequestering part of the biomass carbon as solid char has a desirable impact on the systems net emissions in comparison to a system where char is not produced. In addition, although net negative emissions are generally a desirable property for a fuel, simply focusing on the carbon negative element of fuels must be weighed against other characteristics of the configurations being considered, notably the significant additional electricity requirement for BECCU or the land requirements for char.

Renewable energy standards, regularly reviewed and updated by international committees of technical experts, can help policy makers as an instrument to demonstrate national regulatory compliance, as well as ensuring successful deployment of renewable energy technologies (RET). IRENA’s study, International Standardisation in the Field of Renewable Energy, identifies over 570 standards in the current RET landscape, yet finds gaps in the existing standards, particularly for post-installation aspects of RET, such as operation, maintenance and repair. The study calls for a more structured information platform to make appropriate standards accessible to a variety of users. All stakeholders, including those from developing countries, need to be engaged in the standardisation process. IRENA’s analysis also underlines the importance of RET certification schemes as a risk-mitigation tool, particularly to help small-scale projects obtain financing.

According to the Central Electricity Authority (CEA), the average per capita electricity consumption in India is about 704 kWh as compared to global world wide per capita consumption of 2,752 kWh. The Government of India is keen to increase per capita consumption of energy to raise living standards in the country. An average Indian consumes 0.53 tonnesof oil equivalent (TOE) of energy compared to the global average of 1.82 TOE.Higher economic growth is driving income growth, which in turn is driving up industrial investment and fuel consumption. In general, demand exceeds supply and there is a broad-based energy shortage, which is either met by imports or remains unmet.

The inventory EE in Indonesia is still very limited. The power needs of society and industry is increasing every year. Fossil energy sources are a major source of power generation tend to decrease dramatically and environmental impacts. The potential of RH and the PB in Indonesia is quite large which is produced every year. Based on previous studies, Indonesia has the potential of RH around 13.81×106 tons. The potential of PSW an average of about 252,945 tons/year generated from the year 2008-2010, This potential can be exploited as a source of EE as well as the results of previous studies, in Thailand and in India

It has been proven that carbon dioxide emissions (greenhouse gases GHGs) absorb energy, slowing or preventing the loss of heat to space. In this way, GHGs act like a blanket, making Earth warmer than it would otherwise be. This process is commonly known as the “greenhouse effect”. How much GHGs are actually emitted from Ontario plants.

Econ2216 (2013): Assignment #1 Market Failure Due to Externalities Ruth Forsdyke Due: Monday, Jan. 28th in class. For algebraic questions, please show all work and use short sentences to guide reader through your work. Please use graph paper on page 4 for Problem 2. Problem 1: Dire Predictions (use DP to answer questions/ please be brief) a) Look at the picture of the Florida Keys on page 62 of DP. During the last interglacial period between 130,000 and 114,000 years ago, these were coral reefs. How much higher was the sea level estimated to be based on DP? During the depth of the last ice age, how much lower were the sea levels? b) Look at the three types of Milankovitch orbital cycles pictures on page 63. Which orbital cycle change is thought to have initiated the end of the last ice age? c) List two feedbacks which amplified the effect in b. d) How high were the ice caps which covered most of Canada and the Northern US during the last ice age? (pg. 62) e) Increasing GHGs increases the rate at which water evaporates to become water vapour which forms clouds. Clouds reflect light back to space if they are low but trap heat if they are high. Overall, models suggest that clouds cool the Earth. Is this an example of a negative or positive feedback effect? (pg. 25). f) When GHGs rise, it gets hotter in summer and in equatorial countries. People then use their air conditioners more. Is this an example of a negative or positive feedback loop? Draw a “systems diagram” to illustrate. See lecture note 2. g) We discussed ice core proxy measures which allow scientists to estimate temperatures and GHG concentrations going back 800,000 years. Fossils are another type of proxy measure, which allow estimates to be made even further back in time. Briefly explain how scientists use fossil ferns to get proxies of past temperatures going back tens of millions of years. Based on such proxies, i) how high might the atmosphere’s carbon dioxide concentration rise to if we burn the estimated remaining fossil fuel reserves? How far back in time do we need to go to get estimates of CO2 that are this high? (pg. 42 – 43) h) Currently, the atmosphere’s concentration of carbon dioxide is 392 ppm. Based on the graph on page 41, how far back in time do we need to go to get CO2 concentrations that are this high. Based on the temperature graph immediately above the CO2 graph, how much higher were the polar temperatures relative to today? i) Based on pg 27, identify human caused sources of nitrous oxide (N2O). How long is the average N2O molecule expected to remain in the atmosphere? Problem 2: Kaya Equation a) Please go to the following World Bank website to get the population for China in 2002. http://data.worldbank.org/indicator/SP.POP.TOTL?page=2 b) Consider the following numbers for China in 2002: Average GDP/capita = $ 4379/person CO2 emissions from energy use = 0.26483 tonnes CO2/megaWatthour. Wizards are very useful for creating a good user experience. In all businesses, interactive sessions are most beneficial. To improve the user experience, wizards in Odoo provide an interactive session. For creating wizards, we can use transient models or abstract models. This gives features of a model class except the data storing. Transient and abstract models have permanent database persistence. For them, database tables are made, and the records in such tables are kept until they are specifically erased.
