2- STUDENT-CENTERED LEARNING
 STT vs TTT make the difference in learning a foreign language.
 Student-centered instruction guarantees the student’s
individualization and group work in the class.
 Teacher must be a facilitator rather than a lecturer
 Critical thinking provides setting for the understanding of concepts
rather that providing the concepts by the teacher (Google is the new
Guru of Knowledge)
3-FLUENCY VERSUS ACCURACY
 Do we follow grammar rules in everyday speech? Can you provide 2
examples?
 Why after teaching a grammar rule to your students, they misused it or do
not recall how to use it?
 What’s the inconvenience of following book-bound classes? Do you have a
course syllabus or just follow the textbook? Is it a grammar syllabus?
 Which fluency activities should you do in you daily classes? 3 Examples.
 Shall we teach Regular or Irregular verbs first? Would you teach Present

utterance, a concept or a form.
 Vocabulary is learnt, it is not taught.
 Vocabulary enhancement relies on individual tasks and
assignments
 Plan vocabulary classes as a challenge for your SS. Memory and
Analogy in language acquisition.
 Word meaning and the formation of concepts. From Word images to
abstract words.
5-INDEPENDENT ACTIVITY-Assignments & the Socio Cultural
Meaning of Language
 How much is retained by a student who learns 10 new words in a class ?
 Task–based approach and project–based approach as a way to have the students learn.
Have you ever used it?
 Do you know what “formative assessment” means?.
 Do shy students and low achievers do better if working in a team or on out of class activities
and assignments? Explain.
 How fast is the process of scaffolding in a scheduled grammar program as compared with a
series of assignments to achieve the same goals?.

target language or by research.
 Language culture involves, clichés, slang, sayings, idioms, proverbs,
gestures, etc., but often they are not regularly included in the program.

Provide 2 sound reasons.  Voice and manner might contribute to acceptance or rejection of teacher by the group. Can you provide 2 examples?  Why after teaching a grammar rule to your students, they misused it or do not recall how to use it?  What’s the inconvenience of following book-bound classes? Is it a grammar syllabus?  Which fluency activities should you do in you daily classes? 3 Examples.  Shall we teach Regular or Irregular verbs first? Would you teach Present Perfect to beginners? Memory and Analogy in language acquisition.  Word meaning and the formation of concepts. From Word images to abstract words.
  • 18. 5-INDEPENDENT ACTIVITY-Assignments & the Socio Cultural Meaning of Language  How much is retained by a student who learns 10 new words in a class ?  Task–based approach and project–based approach as a way to have the students learn. Have you ever used it?  Do you know what “formative assessment” means?.  Do shy students and low achievers do better if working in a team or on out of class activities and assignments? Explain.  How fast is the process of scaffolding in a scheduled grammar program as compared with a series of assignments to achieve the same goals?.  The cultural meaning of language relies on word acquisition, the word formation, and exposure to the target language.
