1. How A 20-Year Old
With 2 Months Experience
Landed A 6-Figure Client
Kyle Tully Interviews
Consulting Tycoon Student
Jock Purtle
2. Jock is a 20-year-old guy from
Sydney, Australia.
3. Heâs only
been in the consulting business for
two months and heâs already landed
his first six-figure client.
4. Jock is going to reveal the step-by-step
marketing system he used to get that
client.
5. Heâs going to share with you some of
the free tools he used that helped
close the client.
6. Heâs going to show you how he was
able to charge $100 for a
service that most experienced
consultants are still giving away for
free.
7. Heâs
going to explain to you some of the
mindset shifts he had to make that
helped him overcome the fact that he
had no experience, no testimonials
and no track record.
8. Most important of all, heâs going to tell
you how heâs not doing any of the
work.
9. Thatâs right, heâs getting paid $9,000 a
month from this client and heâs
not doing any of the work.
11. âI grew up in southwest Sydney and
went to boarding school in Sydney.
In terms of Internet, I got my first
computer at 16 but really had nothing
to do with the Internet until I left
school.â
12. What about entrepreneurial stuff?
Was your family entrepreneurial? Did
you grow up in a background that
supported it or was that a bit of a
learning experience as well?
13. âDefinitely. I actually started working
when I was eight in my parentsâ
business. My parents own an auction
business.â
14. âSo I definitely had an entrepreneurial
flair from a very young age, moved
into buying and selling stuff at the
auctions.â
15. What were you doing before you got
started in the consulting and Internet
marketing, between school and now?
16. âI left school and got myself a big job
with KPMG. Theyâre a global
accounting firmâone of the top four
in the world.â
17. âI was doing a lot of auditing,
which was a lot of analytical and
boring stuff.â
18. âI then decided to go and do my
personal training certificate. That was
just a whim-of-the-moment thing, and
then I started my own personal
training business.â
19. I was looking at the army and all these
different options, but somehow I
ended up on the Internet.
20. What was it that first drew you to the
consulting side of things?
21. I know youâre starting to look at
AdWords and doing that kind of online
stuff. Whatâs drawn you towards
consulting?
22. âI was already helping out the
chiropractor that I had a joint venture
with when I was training, and a friend
at that time who owned a childrenâs
party business and I was doing my old
manâs stuff.â
23. How long has it been all up now,
since youâve officially been doing
the consulting?
25. Awesome, and how long did it take
to get your first clientâofficial,
paying client, that is?
26. âIâm doing my old manâs stuff, but
out of the family, three or four
weeks.â
27. âIâve got a business coach I do stuff
for and recently Iâve just got a
really big client, which is exactly
two months later, so it was a pretty
quick succession.â
28. If you donât mind
sharing, tell us a bit more about
that clientâwhat kind of work
youâre doing and the fees youâve
been able to get?
30. âOnce the sites are done, Iâll take
over their AdWords campaign.â
31. âThe project is to increase their
online exposure and get them
more clients.â
32. âIâve got two sites to do
at $4,500 each and then recurring
for both of those sites: SEO per
month $4,500 and then Iâll charge
a fee for AdWords when that gets
incorporated inâ
33. âI just built a six-figure business in
a day with the potential of them
wanting two more sites done in the
next six months.â
34. With all of that work, are you going
to do it yourself? Are you going to
outsource it?
36. âIâm going to use an SEO
service from someone else I know
who does a really good job.â
37. âIâm there doing the managing of
the project and Iâll be having other
people doing the work for me, so I
need something to fill my time up
with.â
38. âIâm in for the high-end, high-
charging clientele that is spending
a lot of money on advertising
because A, there are not many
people that are targeting them and
if they are, they have no idea what
theyâre doing; or B, once you get
them, if you treat them well,
they should be with you for life.â
39. There are so many businesses
spending tens of thousands of
dollars on things like yellow pages
and theyâre not tracking it.
40. There, itâs a really simple business
case that you can present to them:
âLook, what youâre doing now isnât
really working. Itâs costing you a lot
of money. Give me a little bit of
that money and Iâll get you
something that is working.â
41. âI actually rang up the yellow
pages a couple weeks back. Itâs
$82,000 for a full-page color
advertisement in the Sydney
yellow pages for 2010.â
42. ââŠso imagine if they paid you
$82,000 to do SEO AdWords and a
proper, optimized site. How much
return on investment would they
be getting?â
43. âItâs just a matter of understanding
that these guys are getting pitched
$10,000 to $30,000 websites and
then $10,000 to $30,000 a month
maintenance fees.â
44. You briefly mentioned a few bits of
the process, but what was the
marketing campaign you used to
get this client? Did you use direct
mail, cold-calling, did you know
this guy and go knocking on his
door? What was the actual, step-
by-step process?
45. âI literally opened the yellow
pages. I looked at who was
spending the advertising dollars,
and those were the people I
wanted to targeted because I had a
clear outline of the client/clients
that I want.â
46. âIâd give them a call and ask them if
I could send them a personalized
video critique of their site,
outlining how theyâre missing out
on a massive opportunity to make
more money and get more clients.â
47. âI run through their SEO structure
and title description. Iâll have a
look at their page source, use
SEOQuake, which is a free tool you
can download that pulls apart
sites.â
48. âAt the end, I just tell them, âIf you
want to do something about it, I
can help.ââ
49. âIf someone is ready make a
decision and you present them
with an offer, thatâs all that really
needs to be done.â
50. âIâm here to find out what you
want and how I can help you.â
52. ââŠreally understanding his needs
and how I can help himâbecause
at the end of the day, youâre there
to serve and get what he wants. If
you can provide that, itâs an easy
sale, really.â
53. You start with people who are
spending money. You go to them
with a marketing campaign that
actually educates them. Youâve
given them a video which is
proving that youâre an expert.
54. âI took two days to get back to him
after heâd emailed me. Itâs also a
timing thing, like theyâll e-mail you
when theyâre ready.â
55. Youâve got to play hard to get
sometimes, and sometimes that
can be really difficult for people if
theyâre going after their first client.
56. You really do have to just step
back, play it cool and let them
come to you. Ninety-nine percent
of the time, they will come back to
you.
57. âEveryone is self-conscious and has
their moments of self-doubt. If you
give them time, theyâll increase the
draw.â
58. Did anyone ever ask about your
experience? Did age come up? Was
that a barrier?
59. âNo. No. No. No. And no. He even
went through the proposal, I had a
few testimonials on there and he
flicked straight past them.â
60. âIn terms of age, a good mentor of
mine said to me, âThere are 12-
year-old kids making a killing
online. Youâre getting over the hill
at 20. Youâre getting old.ââ
61. âAlthough people
keep on saying âmindset, mindset,
mindset,â and it sounds like theyâre
blowing hot air, from an âIâve done
itâ perspective, itâs so true that if
you believe you can, you will
achieve.â
62. âYes, Iâve done stuff on my own
sites but thatâs really low
competition. Iâve just run before I
could walk and made it happen
really. It just goes to show that itâs
completely possible.â
63. Itâs SEO 101, PPC
101, Website Building 101âitâs
really simple stuff that anyone
whoâs been involved in Internet
marketing for more than two or
three months, they know most of
this stuff and theyâre probably
doing it for themselves.
64. You donât need to
have tons of track record and
experience; all you need is some
basic knowledge and the
understanding that other people
can really benefit from
that knowledge.
65. âI totally donât expect anything for
six or seven months and Iâm going
to turn around and just smash it
for him.â
66. âLiterally youâre in a market where
thereâs low competition, no one
has any idea what theyâre doing,
and if youâve got announce of
knowledge, youâre just going to
smash it for your clients.â
67. What was the hardest thing in this
whole process? There must have
been something that was difficult,
something you struggled with or
something that took longer than
expected?
68. âIâd say mindset, this whole thing
of getting over the idea that Iâm 20,
yes, Iâm dealing with guys who
have multi-million-dollar
turnovers.â
69. âAlso self-belief and to keep on
going, knowing that itâs just time
until what you want will be
created. The technical stuff is really
easy.â
70. âThe hardest thing is really your
mindset, your self-belief and your
ability to do what you want to do.â
71. Nearly all the people who are
constantly struggling are the ones
who are focused on these brand-
new ninja tactics and the technical
stuff.
72. You donât need to really know
anything; you just need to know
that a solution exists and that you
can give it to a client. Then youâre
outsourcing all the technical stuff.
73. âFind someone thatâs done what
you want to do and learn from
them because thatâs just going to
skyrocket your results really
quickly.â
74. âSet up a system so that every time
you go out and find a prospect, you
have something to fall back on and
just let them run through the
system.â
75. âI got the foundation in place so
that when I did go and try to find
clients, I knew I had a process in
place that I could run them
through that I didnât have to worry
about having any problems or just
knowing step by step.â
76. âFind your article marketers and
your SEO and your AdWords
person and your web developer.â
77. Donât rush out there to try and get
clients the first day youâre doing
this because you probably will land
a client and then wonât know what
to do with them and get yourself in
hot water.
