12. Instant conversion of a reactive liquid in a solid induced by ultraviolet
radiation through double bonds
13. Market Environment:
Growing segment due to versatility
Variety of compositions
Cost / Competitiveness – Quality
Technical Challenges - ADHESION:
Crystallinity
Polarity
Surface Tension
Shrinkage
ALL of these vs. Mechanical and Chemical Performance
(Toughness/Flexibility, Scratch and chemical resistance, yellowing, monocoats)
19. CHALLENGES for UV curing:
POLARITY of regularly used components, which leads to higher
surface tensions
SHRINKAGE of the cured film due to retraction during the
conversion of monomers and oligomers into a polymer
20. ROUTE PRODUCT Effect
Lowering the Tg of the ink

Less double bounds in the system
will lead to a lower shrinkage of the
film, helping on the adhesion.
Improve interaction between
the film phase and the
substrate

EBECRYL® 524 (acid modified)
chlorination plays an important
adhesion promoting role.
Surface tension balance EBECRYL® 303
Better substrate wetting enabling
good adhesion and leveling
Addition of acidic modified

Substrate anchoring promotion
Substrate pre-treatments, such as corona or flame treatment. Even the use of primers.
32. EBECRYL 452 is a new energy curable resin, that combines low viscosity
along with excellent pigment wetting properties.
33. • Functionality, theoretical 4
• Dynamic viscosity ~600 cP at 25°C
• Density 1.15 g/cm3
• Appearance Clear, dark amber liquid
• Suitable for use with 3 roll mills where higher pigment loadings is achieved versus using
standard grind vehicles.
• Allows low viscosity pigment concentrates to be produced, for use in bead mills.
• Can be used for a wide range of organic and inorganic pigments.
• Minimizes the use of low molecular weight and low functionality products.
