What kind of media institution
might your media product and why?

2. Production Company
• The production company for my thriller film is CANDI Studios.
CANDI Studios is a very small independent company as it’s the
production company of the college. Thus explaining that every
film that was made by the students has the CANDI Studios
logo.

3. Distribution Company
• The distribution company for my thriller film was Golden Gate
Film Distribution. I made up the distribution company for the
short film which means that if it were to exist it would be a
small independent company.

4. Why are they a suitable distribution
company for your film?
• Our film is small so the distribution company can be small as
well as it wouldn't’t require a lot of money to distribute the
film.
• If our initial plan were to go for a UK release, we would have
to try and get a budget from companies such as the BBC, BFI,
the Lottery or private investors which have budgets ranging
from £40 million and as low as £1 million.

• With the growing social media sites like Facebook and Twitter
and the amount of attention they get its just a very useful tool
and its free.
• Other advertisement websites that big movies use are
YouTube, newspapers and posters which cost a lot of money.
• Our initial idea was to launch our film locally as it fits well with
our target audience but it could see a national release.
• CANDI Studios will give our film a cinematic release, DVD
release and a online release on Vimeo.
• With a different culture to Hollywood, Britain rely on film
festivals to find someone to help with their film distribution.
Digital screening is cheaper as its available on DVD and
cinema, there is also a TV release on Film 4, BBC and online in
Netflix.

6. Hollywood Culture
• I think that our movie will not be suitable for a Hollywood
release as firstly the budget that we would get would not
cover an USA release. Secondly we don’t have the American
values which are typically shows as a happy family and people
practicing freedom of speech among other things.
• Another drawback is that if we wanted to go for a American
release we would have to release the movie in 35mm format
as well as digital.
• It’s a shame that we couldn’t have any cross media
convergence or any conglomerates as well as pushing our our
budget up, it will get us free advertisement on cinemas, news
papers .
