98 cities, including 24 state capitals finalized for its ambitious Smart Cities project.
The government has set 2019 as the
deadline to deliver the first three smart
cities
This includes 13 cities from UP, 12 from
Tamil Nadu, 10 from Maharashtra, 7
from MP, and 3 each from Bihar and
Andhra Pradesh

4. Cities accommodate about 31 % of Population (2011) &
Contribute to 63 % of the GDP and this will become 40 %
and 75 % by 2030
Experts predict that about 25-30 people will migrate every
minute to major Indian cities from rural areas.
It is estimated that by the year 2050, the number of people
living in Indian cities will touch 843 million.

15. • Earlier , India had an urban-rural divide. My worry
is that now, the divide will be Smart cities Vs Urban
& Rural ( Rurban).
• Will Smart cities further move away from the
human touch? Will it lead to smart & connected
cities but disconnected societies ?
