The Center for Food Safety and Applied Nutrition (CFSAN) is the branch of the FDA that regulates food, dietary supplements, and cosmetics. It was established in 1984 to monitor substances added to food and assure no harmful products result from bioengineered foods or processes. CFSAN regulates proper labeling, monitors imports, collects samples, and works with other organizations to protect the US food and cosmetic supplies.

12. CONCLUSION
Although the food supply in the U.S. is considered the safest in the world, there is
always room for improvement—hence the task of this organization.
A major program established in January 2001 is the Hazard Analysis and Critical
Control Point (HACCP), which was originally created to monitor fruit and vegetable
juice production.
Purpose of HACCP is to provide preventive controls at the most contamination-
prone points in the production process.
