Meet The Candidates
2009-2010
Presidential Candidate:
Marisa Hauenstein
Presidential Candidate:
Marisa Hauenstein
My name is Marisa Hauenstein. I am running for President of the
Independence South Community Complex Council. Last
year, I was Rodney’s Treasurer and was voted Rodney’s
Student Leader of the Year. I was also elected as the Class
of 2008 President throughout all four years of high school. I
am extremely organized and dedicated and will do my best to
make Indy South an enjoyable place to call home.
If elected, I will create an area that residents can post any ideas
or suggestions they feel would be positive adjustments to our
complex. I will collect these ideas and distribute them to the
appropriate personnel to hopefully make the changes
requested. I also will try to host more social events so the
complex can meet and socialize as a whole.

I am the perfect candidate for governor of Independence East because I am
an extremely caring, hard working member of the community. We are
located in one of the most beautiful locations on campus and I have
some great ideas for the building. Some of my ideas are to have a turf
Olympics between laird campus resident halls, expand the movie rental
program that ISSA started last year and make it more accessible for
residents. I will strengthen the community bond by having gatherings
such as luau parties on the volleyball court, movie and show nights on
the turf and much more. I would like to make recycling more resident-
friendly and start a vacuum/cleaning rental program as well. As governor
I plan to create opportunities to build a strong community.
I believe I would make a great governor for my building because I care about
the residents and their concerns. I would be a strong voice to represent
your concerns on a campus-wide level. I am also very outgoing,
      dependable and friendly.
IHE Building Governor Candidate:
Andy Meltzer
IHE Building Governor Candidate:
Andy Meltzer
Greetings Residents!
My name is Andy Meltzer and I am running for re-election as Building Governor of Independence East.
Last year I had the privilege of serving on the first Executive Board of our Complex Community
Council. My job entails representing our building’s interests at council and Resident Student
Association meetings. It is my duty to obtain funding for our various events and projects from RSA.
During my term as the original Building Governor, I took part in setting up our new complex. My
accomplishments included: Securing the funds for new kitchen supplies and a free movie rental
program for the complex. I also assisted in the planning of the highly successful Turf Day. Finally,
the doorstops you all received during the first week of the semester were assembled by me and set
      aside for this year.
For 2009-2010, I plan to build on these accomplishments to make living in Indy East even better. I will help
expand the number of titles in the movie program. In addition, I propose more social events such as
study breaks and possibly improv nights. I am determined to get a ping-pong table for the building
lounge and any other equipment residents request.
I am an extremely hard working, trustworthy, and fun person. I enjoy collaborating with others and excel
when I am tested. Last year, when all the washing machines stopped working, I took it upon myself
to call maintenance to make sure they were fixed ASAP. My persistent efforts were successful. I
have been involved in politics and residence hall government since I began college. My summer
internship with my Congressman has broadened my people skills and taught me how to cut through
red tape. I know this school and its administration well so you can be confident that in re-electing
me, you will get the best chance at getting the changes you want. As you cast your ballots
      remember; “Nothing Beats the Original”.

In my opinion, residence life is an extremely important part of the
college experience. I love meeting new and fun people and
working with others to have the best possible university
experience! I am a very dedicated, responsible, and organized
student here at Delaware. I think I would make a good Building
Governor for Thomas McKean Hall because I am focused and
work hard to accomplish everything I attempt. I like having fun,
and I want everyone to have a great time at school, too! Since I
was a floor representative in HLTCCC last year, I know a lot
about the student government here. I’m always willing to listen to
people’s ideas because as residents, you know what you want to
do or see improved in Thomas McKean. I want to organize
programs you want to see over the next year! I want to be a
Building Governor so that everyone enjoys their time here!!
TMK Building Governor Candidate:
Carla Rivera
TMK Building Governor Candidate:
Carla Rivera
Hey! My name is Carla Rivera. I’m from a small, one square mile
town called Magnolia, which is located in South Jersey. I
currently live in 109B Thomas Mckean so come by and say
whenever. I’m here as an exercise science major with a
concentration in physiology. I love to have fun and meet new
people, which is a big reason why I came to UD. I love the fact
that the campus is always busy and I always see new faces. I
really hope that the building becomes super close this year so we
can all leave with a bunch of new friends. Classes and studying
are hard enough so its important that we have a common place
to relax and have fun. All in all, I’m just here to try and make our
      complex fun and exciting!
It’s hard to live with a lot of things that are unlivable. And it’s hard to
come out here and play tonight but there’s nothing else to do. -

Secretary Candidate:
Megan Chojnacki
Secretary Candidate:
Megan Chojnacki
Hi I am Megan Chojnacki, and I would like to be your Independence South
Complex Community Council Secretary. I am a responsible, hard-
working, and extremely reliable dean’s list student. As secretary of the
Independence South CCC, it will be my job to prepare meeting agendas,
keep records of meetings, and coordinate publicity for events. My
organizational skills and strong work ethic will help me to excel at all the
tasks required of secretary. I am enthusiastic about UD and making
Independence South an even better place for all of its residents to enjoy.
It will be my mission as secretary to guarantee all residence’s voices are
heard. I would like to make Independence South feel more like a
collective community. With that in mind, one of my goals is to provide
each dorm with a door stop, so everyone has the opportunity to keep
their door open and welcoming to other residents. I want to organize fun
activities we can enjoy together as an Independence South Community
such as pizza nights, capture the flag tournaments, and bus trips to the
beach. I want to make this year at Independence South as great as
possible and it all starts with your vote.
Secretary Candidate:
Carissa Macay
Secretary Candidate:

I am running for the position of secretary. Being a secretary involves
being organized, recording and keeping information, and
responsibility. Organization is one of my strongest points I keep
everything organized in separate labeled bins, I write all
important dates and events in a planner, and I have a thorough
knowledge of Microsoft excel to keep lists organized and readily
accessible. Responsibility is also something I am familiar with
from being an older sister, to being captain of my high school
gymnastics team, and a peer student leader in high school. I
want to be actively involved in the campus community and help
us all make our short time living in the residence halls the best
they can possibly be. I know we as students have many ideas
for how life in a dorm can be improved and I would like to be the
one to hear those opinions and represent us, as students, to the
    complex community council.
Secretary Candidate:
Leila Sammander
Secretary Candidate:
Leila Sammander
I believe I would make a good secretary because I am
very punctual and organized. I am personable and
work well with other people. I have past experience
doing secretarial work for small organizations and
clubs. I would make sure to bring all the suggestions
for the ISSA community to the meetings and make
sure that everything discussed in the meetings were
relayed back to the Independence South Community
through posters, copies of the agenda, or via e-mail or
Facebook. I will try my best to work with the other
members of the association in trying to create the
friendly atmosphere that most of us want to bring with
    us from West campus.
Treasurer Candidate:
Paige Bosin
Treasurer Candidate:
Paige Bosin
I feel like I am an ideal candidate for
Treasurer because I am organized and
efficient. I am prepared to keep neat and
accurate records of all transactions. As a
finance major, I am taking classes and
learning all about budgeting and finances.
If elected, I plan to apply what I’ve learned
in my classes to the financial obligations I
will be fulfilling. I will address all financial
concerns and budgeting in a timely matter.
Treasurer Candidate:
Sarah Miranda
Treasurer Candidate:
Sarah Miranda
I would make a good treasurer because I am very
personable and reliable. I was also a teller, so I
am good with money. If I was elected, I would
make sure that everyone’s requests through the
Student Initiative Fund were read and given a fair
chance. I have a lot of ideas for events
throughout the school year and coming from
Dickinson, I would like to use the Student Initiative
Fund to help bring the ISSA community together.

  • 16. Secretary Candidate: Megan Chojnacki Hi I am Megan Chojnacki, and I would like to be your Independence South Complex Community Council Secretary. I am a responsible, hard- working, and extremely reliable dean’s list student. As secretary of the Independence South CCC, it will be my job to prepare meeting agendas, keep records of meetings, and coordinate publicity for events. My organizational skills and strong work ethic will help me to excel at all the tasks required of secretary. I am enthusiastic about UD and making Independence South an even better place for all of its residents to enjoy. It will be my mission as secretary to guarantee all residence’s voices are heard. I would like to make Independence South feel more like a collective community. With that in mind, one of my goals is to provide each dorm with a door stop, so everyone has the opportunity to keep their door open and welcoming to other residents. I want to organize fun activities we can enjoy together as an Independence South Community such as pizza nights, capture the flag tournaments, and bus trips to the beach. I want to make this year at Independence South as great as possible and it all starts with your vote.
  • 18. Secretary Candidate: Carissa Macay I am running for the position of secretary. Being a secretary involves being organized, recording and keeping information, and responsibility. Organization is one of my strongest points I keep everything organized in separate labeled bins, I write all important dates and events in a planner, and I have a thorough knowledge of Microsoft excel to keep lists organized and readily accessible. Responsibility is also something I am familiar with from being an older sister, to being captain of my high school gymnastics team, and a peer student leader in high school. I want to be actively involved in the campus community and help us all make our short time living in the residence halls the best they can possibly be. I know we as students have many ideas for how life in a dorm can be improved and I would like to be the one to hear those opinions and represent us, as students, to the complex community council.
  • 20. Secretary Candidate: Leila Sammander I believe I would make a good secretary because I am very punctual and organized. I am personable and work well with other people. I have past experience doing secretarial work for small organizations and clubs. I would make sure to bring all the suggestions for the ISSA community to the meetings and make sure that everything discussed in the meetings were relayed back to the Independence South Community through posters, copies of the agenda, or via e-mail or Facebook. I will try my best to work with the other members of the association in trying to create the friendly atmosphere that most of us want to bring with us from West campus.
  • 22. Treasurer Candidate: Paige Bosin I feel like I am an ideal candidate for Treasurer because I am organized and efficient. I am prepared to keep neat and accurate records of all transactions. As a finance major, I am taking classes and learning all about budgeting and finances. If elected, I plan to apply what I’ve learned in my classes to the financial obligations I will be fulfilling. I will address all financial concerns and budgeting in a timely matter.
  • 24. Treasurer Candidate: Sarah Miranda I would make a good treasurer because I am very personable and reliable. I was also a teller, so I am good with money. If I was elected, I would make sure that everyone’s requests through the Student Initiative Fund were read and given a fair chance. I have a lot of ideas for events throughout the school year and coming from Dickinson, I would like to use the Student Initiative Fund to help bring the ISSA community together.
