2. Background Music
Explanation What has been done…
The background music we chose for the
promotional video was Trouble in the
West by Koan Sound. The reason we
chose this was because it had a strong
beat throughout the video, which made
the switching of clips or ‘blackouts’ more
effective.
3. Explanation What has been done…
The first shot of this video was filmed
unfocused, which was gradually focused
using the manual focus function on the
camera. The font used for this was
Helvetica Neue Ultralight in white.
We purposely filmed this scene out of
focus as this would make the words
‘crossroads foundation’ appear sharper.
The same font was used in the video and
posters to maintain consistency, and
create a sense of cohesion.
4. Explanation What has been done…
These next few clips are of Minju and I
putting up the posters we designed
around the school. Different shots with a
variety of angles were used.
The wider variety of cinematography
effects used was to make the video look
more interesting for viewers.
5. Explanation What has been done…
This shot was panned from left to
right, with manual focus.
The shot started off slightly unfocused, as
when it manually focuses the audience
knows exactly what to look at. This is
different from the medium/close-up shots
we did previously, creating a stronger
visual impact.
6. Explanation What has been done…
This shot zooms out from a close-up, in
order to show the full poster.
This different shot shows our
understanding of the variety of shots we
can film, and this one was inserted here
because the quick zooming out of the
poster matched the background music
well, building up to the ‘blackouts’ later on.
7. Explanation What has been done…
The blackouts were made with the
‘cutaway’ tool on iMovie.
Several of these effects in a row a few
milliseconds apart lasting for 0.2 seconds
each create a flickering effect in time with
the music, which made it visually
impacting.
These were repeated in places where the
music had a heavy beat
8. Explanation What has been done…
The video finishes with several text
slides, and ends with the link to
Crossroads’ website.
We decided to include the text slides to
urge the viewers into taking action, and
the website was included at the end for
viewers if they wanted to find out more
about the charity.
