- Here are some comments I have heard from others in public works who are dealing with but not usingsocial media.
- But while most are listening to the scary stories, the other side is rarely heard. Social media has evolved and is now used for communication, education, research, networking, collaboration, and management.
- One of the most popular uses of social media for us is education of staff and citizens. Let’s look at some examples of how others are using social media for this purpose. This slide shows a photo on Flickr. Photos can be used for reference to help train inspectors or prepare them for what to look for in the field. These photos can also be used to show or demonstrate to residents what type of work will be done or what features are planned for a project.

- Wikis can be used to help educate. Many tutorials exist that have been built by the community.

- Twitter tips – important to find the right people to follow. The best way to do this is find a listing on twitter of professionals tagged with words like surveying, engineering, public works, highways then click on a specific person on that list and read their tweets. If they seem relevant to you, follow them.
