Interview skills tips how to get the job or internship
1. CONTENT
1. Use the keywords they use in the job
requirements - e.g. if they say they need
"people-oriented" interns, use that specific
keyword when describing yourself.
2. Provide specific examples - talk about
the courses you've taken and how they'll
help you handle the job. Also how your
previous work experience will help you.
3. Demonstrate your passion - show they
WHY you want the job. Use the word
"because" - it's proven to be a powerfully
persuasive word. Don't have time to write
the research for you, but trust me when I
say because is the most persuasive word in
the english language.
4. If you get the opportunity, talk about
the projects they are doing. What projects
are they currently working on? Don't be
afraid to praise them for their work and
then say you want to make a similar
difference to the world.
5. Show how this internship will fit into
your future career plan
6. One HR recruiter told me 90% of the
decision is judged on the quality of the
questions the interns ask. Have at least 2
great questions to ask the interviewer.
7. Be very clear about what the job
requires - know all your rotations/duties by
heart.
2. DELIVERY
1. Speak slowly - people have a tendency
to speak too quickly when nervous. Since
it's on the phone, make sure you speak
slowly so the interview misses nothing.
2. Keep your answers relatively short and
concise.
3. Pause - don't be afraid to pause at the
end of your sentences to let him digest
your answers.
4. If he asks you any difficult questions,
buy some time by answering honestly,
"That is a difficult question.." It allows you
some time to think.
5. Use numbering to make your structure
clear (when possible) - First reason,
Secondly, Finally...
6. For long answers, make sure you have a
conclusion (not every answer, but just long
winded answers): "Overall, I think (1) (2)
and (3)
7. You've worked hard enough...you'll be
fine!
