Vladimir Stozhkov Self Presentation
1. Where I am from I was born in Rybinsk, the town located on the bank of Volga 80 km upper than Yaroslavl. Several centuries ago it was in high demand. It was known as the capitol of barge haulers. Rybinsk was assign the status of town in 1775 by Yekaterina the Great. In 1930âs industrial race come to Rybinsk. Many plans were built. Water reservoir storage and Rybinsk hydropower station were created to provide nearest areas with electricity. When Nazis were standing in a few kilometers near Moscow and trying to capture it Rybinsk hydropower station supplied energy to Moscow. Therefore, despite a number of opponents who accuse the decision to flood the old town Mologa for water reservoir creation, undoubtedly it was a quite considerable to do so.
2. Where I am from A few years ago Rybinsk was included to The Golden Ring. Now town citizens can usually notice many tourists walking along the Volga embankment. The most spectacular sightseeing are the bridge across the Volga river, Spaso-Preobragensky Cathedral and the Municipal Rybinsk Museum. When I was a child there were very popular among rebellious youth to jump from the bridge into water just for fun. A several years ago the Cathedral was used only as a sightseeing place but recently it was hallowed and now orthodoxies conduct public liturgies. The Museum has an abundant collection of arts works from 18 th and 19 th centuries.
3. Childhood My childhood was a very severe and light-hearted time, halcyon years. I was a bit unruly kid. There were a constant problems regarding my bad behavior in school. My interests could be easily seen. Being a little kid I participated in various kinds of song festivals. Besides I liked sports very much such as ice skating, soccer and so on. By a favorite sports was⊠chess!
4. Student Years Every one is missing his or her students years. So am I. I really appreciate the opportunities MSU gave to me. Moreover, it were the golden times. I met so much interesting people among professors, students, artists, so on. Life in dormitory is very useful for the future success. The skills developed: diligence, sociability, hard-working and others. Besides, while living in a dormitory you never feel alone. And, certainly, do not forget about the funniest parties, student jokes and even revelries sometimes.
5. Hobbies My favorite hobbies are still the same. Music. Singing and guitar playing. I was a participant of the MSU academic choir. It was an estimable experience. Sports. Streetball and bicycle. Every year I try to organize a cycle tour. The next summer me and my friends are planning to visit Crimea peninsula.
6. Mountains âAddictionâ Recently I have become absolutely beloved in mountains and everything pertaining to them. I savor top ascension, trekking and certainly snowboarding. It is not so simple and every moment in mountains you should be very cautious and vigilant. I try to attend avalanche safety courses as soon as I can.
7. America and Future Plans I have been in US for two times and I actually enjoyed their values and customs. There are so many astonishing places to visit. Just several instances: Grand Canyon, Niagara Falls, Yosemite National Park, JFK Space Center in Florida, New York, Chicago, Harvard University and so on. In 2006 it was the most useful experience â student exchange program. It was my first attempt to speak English without nervousness and excitement. Now I am applying documents to be admitted to University of Florida for PhD program in the field of applied mathematics.
8. Occasions and Regularity In conclusion, some details just for fun. In spite of many things I like in America I am entirely irritated with fast-food. And it would be my burdens for the next time. Also, I have got one more irregular hobby. I seem to enjoy missing the flight from New York to Moscow. Two times I got that flight â two times I missed it. Well, applying statistical principles to happened events it can be asserted that JFK Kennedy is my favorite place to hang out all night long without money and to ring up my friends in Russia beseeching to take me back.
