2. Biography
Paul was born and raised in Hawaii. He attended `Iolani School, earned his B.A. from Denver University,
and obtained his J.D. from Creighton University School in Omaha, Nebraska. He currently is a licensed and
practicing corporate attorney by day.
While Paul pursued the law as an occupation, music was always his passion. Over the years, Paul has
been a member of numerous doo-wop acapella groups, he has performed in local theatre, and he’s been the
lead vocalist in a local Hawaiian music group.
In 2003, Paul entered the vocal competition of the 1st Annual Hapa Haole Hula and Music Festival. Paul
won the competition and earned the right to record under the Hula Records label. In 2004, Paul released his
debut CD, “Magic Beside the Sea”. “Magic” was nominated for several Na Hoku Hanohano (Na Hoku) awards
and was an entrant in the 2004 Grammy Awards (Best Hawaiian Album). Since 2004, Paul has regularly
appeared as a guest performer at the annual Hapa Haole Hula and Music Festival, singing with such
legendary local performers as Nina Keali’iwahamana, Mahi Beamer, Gary Aiko, Marlene Sai and Danny
Kaleikini.
In December, 2007, Paul released his second CD, “Sentimental Alibi”, under his own recording label,
Leo Hano Records. Among others, he teamed up with former `Iolani School classmate, Mark Tanouye
(bass); noted keyboard player Dan Del Negro of the Honolulu Jazz Quartet; and Na Hoku award winners
Weldon Kekauoha and Jeff Peterson.
On March 15, 2008, Paul accepted the Contemporary Hawaiian CD of the Year award at the 11th
Annual Hawaii Music Awards for his work on “Sentimental Alibi”. “Sentimental Alibi” was also nominated for
7 awards in the 2008 Na Hoku Awards, and it was an entrant in the Traditional Pop Vocal category of the
2008 Grammy Awards.
In June of 2008, Paul made his musical debut in Japan, and his music is regularly played and featured on
internet radio stations around the world. Music from “Sentimental Alibi” and “Magic Beside the Sea” is
available on Apple’s iTunes , Rhapsody and other digital download sites.
