2. High Unemployment There are long lines outside of employment agencies with men looking for work. There was not a lot of work for white collar workers, many of the newly created jobs where in construction and public works projects.
3. Soup Kitchens Because of the huge unemployment rates, many people could not afford to buy food. They were dependent upon the generosity of others to supply the soup kitchens.
4. High Homelessness With the loss of income and the droughts in the farmlands, many families found themselves out of house and home. Many families took the road to move to the cities in hopes of finding work.
5. The Hardest Hit The hardest hit by the economic situation was the children. It was hard for parents to care for themselves, let alone their children. However, most parents tried to do all that they could to get food and shelter for their children.
