- 1. 12 . Internationales MitOstFestival Novi Sad 1.—5.10.2014
- 2. Liebe Mitglieder und liebe Gäste, herzlich willkommen zum 12. Internationalen MitOst-Festival! Mehr als 200 engagierte Menschen aus über 30 Ländern finden in den nächsten fünf Tagen in Novi Sad zusammen. Sie feiern Kultur, teilen Wissen und entwi-ckeln Neues. Unser dynamisches Netzwerk wird auch in diesem Jahr mit über 80 Veranstaltungen sichtbar. In den kommenden Tagen in Novi Sad erwarten euch Diskussionen rund um die Bewerbung Novi Sad’s als Europäische Kulturhauptstadt. Unter dem Motto „Imagining the Balkans“ werden wir uns zudem spezifi-schen Themen und Prozessen in der Gastregion annähern. Filmvorführungen, Ausstellungen und Diskus-sionen schaffen den Rahmen, regionale Konstruktionen und Zuschreibungen aufzuspüren, indem Fremd-und Eigenwahrnehmungen dargestellt werden. Workshops und Netzwerkstätten bieten Raum für Austausch über Instrumente der Projekt- und Organisationsentwicklung, für Planung neuer Projekte und -Koopera-tionen. Ein Einblick in die aktuellen politischen Entwicklungen in Ungarn, Russland und der Ukraine wird durch lokale Perspektiven ermöglicht. Ein Musikprogramm zum Mitmachen und Zuhören und eine ganze Reihe Workshops zu künstlerischer Theorie und Praxis schafft Raum zum Nachdenken und Selbermachen. Das Team des Projekts „Federation of Urban Imagination“ bringt Amateurkurzfilme aus Serbien mit und organisiert eine Diskussion zum Thema „Do-It-Yourself Urbanismus“. Wir bedanken uns sehr herzlich bei allen, die das MitOst-Festival in Novi Sad mitgestalten, bei den freiwil-ligen Helfern, Workshopleitern, Moderatoren und Künstlern, bei den Förderern und Partnern. Unser Dank geht an dieser Stelle auch an alle MitOst-Mitglieder, die durch ihr stetiges Engagement, durch Enthusiasmus und Leidenschaft MitOst zu dem machen, was es ist – ein lebendiges, offenes und vielfältiges Netzwerk. Festivalkoordination Dear members and dear guests, welcome to the 12th International MitOst-Festival. More than 200 people from over 30 countries will meet dur-ing the next five days in Novi Sad to celebrate culture, share knowledge and develop new ideas. Through the wide range of events and the jam-packed programme of the Festival the dynamics of our network becomes tangible. The festival programme includes discussions on Novi Sad’s application to become European Capital of Cul-ture. In order to come closer and get an idea of the region a bunch of events were organised under the motto “Imagining the Balkans”: By giving space to self-perception and perception of others, films, exhibitions and discussions enable to trace the construction and stereotypes of a region. A range of network meetings and workshops awaits you to exchange instruments of organisational development and to plan new project ideas and cooperation. An insight into the current developments in Hungary, Russia and Ukraine will be given through the personal view of local people. A music programme offers to listen but also to make music while a range of artistic workshops invites you to approach artistic theory and practice by doing it yourself. The project team of “Federation of Urban Imagination” brings along amateur short films from Serbia and organ-ises a discussion on Do-It-Yourself Urbanism. We want to thank everyone who dedicated time and energy to the realisation of the MitOst-Festival in Novi Sad, especially the volunteers, workshop leaders, moderators and artists as well as the supporters and partners. Our thanks go out to all the MitOst members for their enthusiasm, their indefatigable dedication and their general creative input. Only their efforts make MitOst and especially the annual MitOst-Festival as vibrant as it is today. Alltagsbeobachtungen (1): Ein praktischer Ansatz zum Interkulturellen Lernen Gut vorbereitet, die Welt zu sehen? In diesem Workshop wird die gängige Seminarpraxis kritisch reflektiert, in der kulturelle Unterschiede noch immer reproduziert und Kulturen als abgrenzbare Objekte angenommen werden. Damit soll auf Probleme hingewiesen werden, die bei der Vorbereitung auf einen Aus-landsaufenthalt aufkommen können, da Wahrnehmung so subjektiv ist wie ein stabiles Kulturkonzept eine Illusion. Mit dem Ansatz der „Alltagsbeobach-tungen“ wird die subjektive Wahrneh-mung in interkulturellen Situationen in das Zentrum einer Methode gestellt, die sehr einfach im Auslandsaufent-halt angewendet werden und als Tür-öffner zur Gastregion dienen kann. Everyday Life of the Weiguren... Observations on Everyday Life (1): A Practi-cal Approach to Intercultural Learning Are you well prepared to see the world? This workshop is critically reflecting the seminar-practice of reproducing cultural differences and culture as a clearly limited object. Pointing at the subjectivity of perception and the illusion of culture as a stable concept, the workshop aims to make conscious about possible problems coming up during the preparation of a stay abroad. The subjectivity of intercul-tural situations will be focused by using the method of “observations on everyday life”, which can be helpful for entering a new and unknown surrounding. At the workshop, techniques that a blind person uses to perceive visual art will be experienced. Through sculptures, photography and pictures in positive relief, you will walk in the shoes of someone who enjoys these forms of art without sight. Anisa Proda 2.10. 11.00 — 12.00 Meeting Point: CK13 en Cross-Poetry: Writing Workshop This will be an experimental writing workshop in which the experiment belongs to everyone and not only to artists or writers. In the form of a social game and in a shape similar to crossword we will experience Cross-Poetry as an intimate experi-ence through words. Everyone can hear/understand words on his/her own way. In that sense, this writing is emotional montage of the text. Cross-Poetry is collective montage of the text. On the words of one text, new one will be made, and then another one, then another one. With the same words, we write different texts, which will be appearing one from the other, and they form that we write one – the same – text. Jelena Andjelovski 2.10. 10.30 — 12.30 Volonterski Centar en / participants’ mother tongue Forgotten Music from the Carpathians: To Learn about, to Play and Feel the Trembita Get to know the ancient traditions of the Ukrainian Carpathians through the “Carpathian alpine horn” – the trembita! Not only can you hear and look at it in a documentary by the German direc-tor Elke Sasse, but Vitaliy Chupak will even teach you how to play it. All you need is a lot of breath and emotion. Eurer Kreativität sind keine Grenzen gesetzt. Mithilfe der Stencil-Technik können Graffiti einfach aufgetragen werden. Mit der Lavendeldrucktechnik könnt ihr Schriftzüge und Bilder auf Stoff übertragen. Bringt T-Shirts und Taschen mit oder kauft sie euch beim Festival. Design your own T-Shirt or bag with self-made prints. Images and text can be easily applied and transferred to fabrics by using the stencil technique and the lavender print technique. Bei diesem Workshop lernt ihr spielerisch die Basics des Improvisationstheaters kennen. Nach einem Warm-Up und Übungen zur Schulung der Raum- und Körperwahrneh-mung, improvisieren wir auf 5, 4, 3, 2, 1 … los! kleine Szenen mit und ohne Sprache. Theatererfahrungen sind nicht notwendig, wichtig ist eure Spielfreude! Saskia Mosler 2.10. 12.30 — 14.00 CK13 de Biography as a Tool Working with your own biography is like cleaning the house – you separate old and non-useful things from items that you still would like to use. Also biography is a memory. Telling stories and experiences, recalling events from the past, people are trying to define themselves, to find their identity and by that to create an image of their future. Many artists are using their biographies in their artistic practice: it is a tool for reflection and analysis; it is a pro-cess of learning and discovering something new being actually based in your past or current present. It is also strongly connect-ed to the understanding and perception of others and their biographies. By watching them, we learn about ourselves. Mischa Badasyan Mit der eigenen Biographie zu arbeiten ist, wie zu Hause sauber zu machen. Altes und Unbrauchbares wird von den Dingen getrennt, die noch benutzt werden sollen. Biographie ist aber auch wie das Gedächt-nis. Durch das Mitteilen von Geschichten und Erfahrungen, werden vergangene Momente wieder ins Gedächtnis gerufen und Menschen versuchen sich damit selbst zu definieren, die eigene Identität zu finden und ein Bild für die Zukunft zu entwerfen. Like other organisations, we experienced that diversity awareness as an attitude becomes more and more decisive in a heterogeneous world, where inclusion of people is in-creasingly important for successful action. Like the Apple Vice, Denise Young-Smith (who is usually not interested in diverse ecosystems) pointed out: “We believe to our core that inclusion inspires our very best innovations.” We want to discuss with you the chances and challenges of diversity in education, civil society and activism. Potentials, Scenarios and Trajectories in the Light of ECC2021 Application As a candidate for European Cultural Capital in 2021, Novi Sad looks for a various ways of re-addressing culture as a (urban) development strategy. Beyond a complex application procedure and weak institutional support, “cultural workers” are facing dilapidated cultural infrastructure, lightened with occasional cultural (rather entertain-ment- based) events such as Exit Festival. Lack of alternative spaces for experimenta-tion, politicised cultural institutions and patchwork-like cultural scene calls for novel ways of thinking about what is the role and function of the culture in the city once called “Serbian Athens”. We want to discuss possible models, scenarios and trajec-tories that overcome classical institutional passivity inside “ever-transitory society”. Unter den Frauen herrscht Vollbeschäftigung, die Männer hingegen hatten nach der Wende weniger Glück und sind arbeits-los. Anhand der Textilindustrie wird die Parabel der Kinder der Wende in Make-donien erzählt. Der Film der Regisseurin Biljana Garvanlieva wirft einen Blick hinter die Gardinen der Globalisierung. Die Akkordeonspielerin Als Kind bekommt Emilija ein Akkordeon geschenkt, mit 14 gewinnt sie den nation-alen Akkordeonwettbewerb Makedoniens. Die Regisseurin Biljana Garvanlieva portraitiert Emilija, die aus einer ar-men, aber ungeheuer musikalischen und lebenslustigen Familie kommt. Als eine der wenigen Akkordeonspielerinnen lernt sie, sich in der Männerwelt durchzusetzen. Gefördert von der Robert Bosch Stiftung im Rahmen des Programms „Grenzgänger“. Danube Sounds 2.857 Kilometer, vom Schwarzwald bis zum Schwarzen Meer reisen sechs Freunde in zwei alten Autos, bepackt mit einer Fülle an Instrumenten, mit Filmkameras und Zelten auf dem Dach. Eine Schallplatte aus Bel-grad hatte die Musiker und Filmemacher inspiriert, ostwärts zu reisen und sich auf die Suche nach den Klängen dieser Region zu begeben. Die jungen Leute sind selbst an der Donau aufgewachsen – haben die Länder, durch die der Fluss fließt, aber nie genau erkundet. So macht sich die Gruppe auf ihre Reise, von der Quelle in Süd-deutschland durch Österreich, Ungarn und Serbien bis zum Donaudelta in Rumänien, wo die Donau ins Schwarze Meer fließt. Sie treffen Musiker, spielen und jammen mit ihnen und kommen so der Musik und den Menschen entlang des Flusses näher. Wrangelfilm Produktion 2.10. 19.30 — 21.00 Izba OT / en subtitles With two old cars, packed with music instruments, movie cameras and tents, six friends are travelling 2,857 kilometers from Germany to the Black Sea. Listening to an old Vinyl from Belgrade they were inspired to travel eastwards to discover all the sounds of the region. Those six young people grew up themselves in the Danube region and travelled through countries crossed by the Danube. But they never really explored them. Thus the travel begins from the well of the Danube through Austria, Hungary and Serbia to Romania where the Danube is flow-ing into the Black Sea. On their way the six friends meet musicians, make music together and are slowly coming closer to the music and the people all along the river. A Fine Day for Bananafish A Kosovo war veteran is having a hard time readjusting to his life after returning from service. He and his wife try to rescue their broken marriage by travelling to a beautiful lake resort in Ohrid, Macedonia. His wife’s mother is worried for her safety because of his erratic behaviour. Stefan Malešević 2.10. 20.30 — 21.00 Culture Exchange sr / en subtitles Gold Fever The Gold Fever reached one of the poorest municipalities in Kosova – Novobërdo, characterised with weak infrastructure, minimal job opportunities and low liv-ing standards. Regardless, the relations between Albanians and Serbs are stable and both communities aim to live in peace. The only wealth that Novobërdo has, is its cultural inheritance, a heritage that is now protected by law. With the mys-tery about the “Pot of Gold” this heritage is in danger as well as the pride of the town… After the film the director Arben Llapashtica will be present for a talk. - 15. FILMS _____________________________ Mirna For the first time since the Civil War started in the beginning of the 90s two antagonis-tic friends from Serbia go on a journey abroad, to Croatia. While one of them wants to find a workbench his grandfather made out of stones during his time as a political prisoner of the socialist Yugoslavia, the other one would like to meet the woman which he still calls his greatest love determining his everyday life although he has not heard about her since the war started. “Mirna” is a tragicomic road movie about love, the irreversibility of time and the sense of friendship. After the film the director Wolf-gang Reinke and protagonists of the film will be present for a talk with the audience. Wolfgang Reinke 3.10. 19.00 — 21.00 Udruženje Novinara sr / en subtitles EXHIBITIONS _______________________ At the Border Felix Adler went to Kosovo to realise a project about the region, trying to catch the spirit of this place that most people in Western Europe just know because of the war. The results are six stories about Kosovo out of which two will be presented. Kosovo borders Serbia, its former “motherland”, and Albania, the country most of the Kosovo-Albanians want to belong to. People passing this border are mostly either Albanian or Serbian. But what is dividing these people, these two ethnici-ties? In a photographic experiment people at the borders were photographed to-gether with their cars. The exhibition will confront Serbians and Albanians and asks for differences, are there any? These border-crossers are accompanied by an installation of photos of a new highway between Kosovo and Albania. An infra-structural project being built but rarely used (at least as a highway) seems to be an attempt to unify the countries – not in a politically but in an infrastructural way. Quarter en Across the River – Tales of a Divided City “Across the River” takes a look at the city Mitrovica in Kosovo, which serves as a specific example for the tense situation in Kosovo. Symbolised by the river Ibar, which is crossing the city, Mitrovica is divided into a Serbian and an Albanian part. The bridges over the river, which earlier connected the two parts sides, now constitute a border. Coming to the city, the impression is arising that feelings of distrust and resentment made the city be-ing paralysed since the conclusion of the war in 2,000. With the documentary Leonie Lohwasser and Jasper Bastian aim to reveal the roots of the situation and investigate the political and social situation of the citizens today. Due to personal stories and pictures, this work wants to expose the long-term developments, reflecting the impact of Serbia’s and Kosovo’s endeavours to approach European Union member-ship and the level of regional hostilities. Leonie Lohwasser, Jasper Bastian „Across the River“ richtet den Blick auf die Stadt Mitrovica, welche ein spezifisches Beispiel für die aktuelle Situation im Koso-vo darstellt. Symbolisiert durch den Fluss Ibar, der durch die Stadt fließt, ist Mitrovica in einen serbischen und einen albanischen Teil geteilt. Die Brücken, die über den Fluss führen und früher die Stadtteile verbanden, sind zur Grenze geworden. Und bei einem Aufenthalt in der Stadt drängt sich der Eindruck auf, dass Gefühle des Misstrau-ens und der Missgunst die Stadt seit dem Kriegsende 2000 gelähmt haben. Mit der Dokumentation sind Leonie Lohwasser und Jasper Bastian den Ursprüngen dieses Zustandes und der heutigen sozialen wie politischen Situation der Bewohner nach-gegangen. Durch persönliche Geschichten und Bilder macht die Ausstellung lang-fristige Entwicklungen in der Stadt und Region, die EU-Annäherungen Serbiens und des Kosovos, sowie vorhandene bzw. unterstellte regionale Feindseligkeiten sichtbar und hinterfragt sie gleichzeitig. 2.10.— 4.10. Die Ausstellung „Diebe & Bettler“ beschäftigt sich mit dem aktuellen Bild Rumäniens in Europa, mit vorherrschenden Vorurteilen und Klischees, die kontinuierlich durch Printmedien und elektronische Medien reproduziert werden. Mit den Fotographien wird das erzeugte Bild politischer, sozialer und geistiger Rückständigkeit hinterfragt und eine Konfrontation mit angenomme-nen kulturellen Unterschieden ausgelöst. Thieves & Beggars Children with dirt in their face, mouths without a single tooth, colourful skirts, destroyed streets, sordid buildings, bread-making grandmas, horse carriages, shepherds, old people with a face full of wrinkles and pitchfork in their hands. Prostitution, Migration, Corruption and Poverty. That is what you won’t see in this exhibition. “Thieves & Beggars” is point-ing at the widespread picture of Romania, including many prejudices and stereotypes which are constantly reproduced in printed and electronic media. With his pictures, Aleksej Nutz is questioning the generated imagination of a social, political and intel-lectual backwardness and causes a confron-tation with assumed cultural differences. Maysternya, a cooperation programme of the Theodor-Heuss-Kolleg, is a good example for this. It has grown into a partnership with people from the small Carpathian Village Babyn. The result is a great one: The opening of Khata-Mayster-nya – a place for seminars and meetings. To turn the old wooden Hucul House into a space which can be properly used, there is still a lot of work to do. Until now the whole project is funded by the team, but the goal is to find funds and financial support from different peo-ple. MitOst members from Ukraine will bring things from different regions of the country. And for sure there will be something interesting for everyone, not to speak of the fun an auction can be. The money you spend buying the presents will go directly into a fund to support Khata-Maysternya. Maysternya Auktion Khata-Maysternya: Geschenke aus der Ukraine Trotz der aktuellen schwieri-gen Situation in der Ukraine gibt es viele positive Ent-wicklungen. Das Kooperati-onsprogramm des Theodor- Heuss-Kollegs Maysternya ist ein gutes Beispiel dafür. Es hat sich zu einer Partner-schaft mit den Bewohnern des kleinen karpatischen Dorfs Babyn entwicklelt. Das Ergebnis ist die Eröff-nung von Khata-Maysternya – eines Ortes für Seminare und Begegnung. Damit das alte hölzerne Huzulhaus sich in einen nutzbaren Raum verwandelt, muss noch viel getan werden. Bisher trägt das Team alle Projektausga-ben selbst, sucht aber nach finanzieller Unterstützung. READINGS _________________________ Burkhard Spinnen: „Nevena“ Zwei Wochen reisten Burkhard Spinnen und sein Sohn mit einem Wohn-wagen durch Bosnien und Kroatien – wie auch die Hauptfiguren seines Ro-mans „Nevena“, aus dem Burkhard Spinnen liest. Darin begeben sich Va-ter und Sohn auf die Suche nach Nevena, Patricks Spielpartnerin aus einem Online-Computerspiel und lernen dabei nicht nur die (schreckliche) Ge-schichte des ehemaligen Jugoslawiens, sondern auch sich selbst kennen. Der Roman erzählt von zwischenmenschlichen Beziehungen in analogen und di-gitalen Weiten und macht „Couple Quest“ zu einem Schlüsselbegriff einer Reise. Mein Körper ist leicht, durchsichtig, unwägbar. Der Körper läuft, handelt, lebt, begehrt. Body Walk ist eine interaktive Intervention in der Stadt, die sich mit den Körperbil-dern, Sexualität und Cruising (outdoor Sex, vorwiegend in der Schwulen Szene) auseinandersetzt. It is the origin of the world and a crossing point of paths and spaces. The body itself is nowhere but it has a form, which again has an outline. My body is lightweight, transparent, imponder-ably. The body walks, acts, lives and longs. Body Walk is an interactive intervention in the city reflecting body imaginations, sexuality and cruising (outdoor sex, mostly inside the gay scene). VCV – Volunterski Centar Vojvodina will talk about their begin-nings and developments during a short sit in their office. The Youth Center CK13 will introduce their activities including the con-cept and project of the Vegan Open Kitchen “Otvorena Kuhinja”. Per.Art connects education, art and inclusion and will explain how and why they are doing it. The citizens’ initiative NS Blok will introduce their ideas, goals and activi-ties for activating citizens in Novi Sad for the development of the city. Representatives of Novosadska Biciklistička Inicijativa will talk about the conception and development of the Critical Mass in Novi Sad. 2.10. / 3.10. By Bike through Novi Sad Cultural Exchange is offering Bike tours through Novi Sad end-ing at the fortress of Petrovaradin. There are ten bikes avail-able but you can also join the tour with your own bike. Judith Schüler wird die Ergebnisse ihrer Masterarbeit vorstellen. Die Studie wid-mete sich der Frage, inwiefern Netzwer-ke zivilgesellschaftlichen Engagements demokratieförderliches Sozialkapital produzieren und durch welche spezifischen Eigenschaften sie sich auszeichnen. Das entwickelte Analyseinstrument wurde speziell auf MitOst angewandt. Darüber hinaus wird diskutiert, ob das vorgestellte Analyseinstrument geeignet ist, um die Produktion von sozialem Kapital auch in anderen Kontexten zu evaluieren. Engagement, Social Capital und Demo-cracy Promoting: Analysing the Demo-cracy Supporting Potential of Transna-tional Networks of Civic Engagement with Particular Reference to MitOst e.V. Judith Schüler will present the results of her Thesis. The study asks whether networks of civic engagement produce democracy supporting social capital and how these networks represent general network characteristics. An analysis tool was developed to characterise the trans-national network MitOst. Finally, we will discuss if the presented analysis tool is appropriate to evaluate the creation of social capital in further contexts. Der Vorstand muss den Mitglie-dern Rechenschaft über die Vereinsaktivitäten ablegen. Members’ Assembly The members’ assembly is the highest and most important organ at MitOst. Via resolutions it defines the organisation’s policy and direction of its work. The assembly elects the MitOst board, determines the amount of membership fees and makes decisions concerning amendments to the articles of association. The member’s assembly is a forum for all the mem-bers and an opportunity to introduce your opinion and your voice. The board is required to account for the organisation’s activities.
