                          Chairman, President & Chief executive officer of IBM
International Business Machines (IBM) nicknamed "Big Blue", is a multinational
computer technology and IT consulting corporation headquartered in Armonk, New
York, United States.
The roots of IBM date back the 1880s, decades before the development of electronic
computers. The company was founded in 1911 as the Computing Tabulating
Recording Company (CTR), IBM has described its formation as a merger of three
companies :
     Tabulating Machine Company
     International Time Recording Company
     Computing Scale Company




                             IBM ‘ s Company in 1893
At first IBM name in 1880’s as CTR. On February 14, 1924, CTR's name was
formally changed to International Business Machines Corporation (IBM).
In 1920, the company introduced the first complete school time control system, and
launched its first printing tabulator.
 By the end of the 1970s, IBM began the new era in computing. It launched IBM PC on
 August12,1981. That day onwards they are day to day changing the technology in IT sector.
Some of the discovery’s of IBM :
1906: Hollerith Type I Tabulator, The first tabulator with an automatic card feed and control panel.
1945: IBM's first research lab for IT (Computing Laboratory)
1946: Chinese character typewriter IBM introduces an electric Chinese ideographic character
typewriter, which allowed to type at a rate of 40 to 45 Chinese words a minute.
1956: First magnetic Hard disk drive IBM introduces the world's first magnetic hard disk for data
storage.
1968: IBM Customer Information Control System(CICS)
1969: First moon landing, IBM personnel and computers help NASA land the first men on the Moon.
1970: Relational databases, Today, nearly all database structures are based on the IBM concept of
relational databases.
1971: Floppy disk
1976: Laser Printer
1981: IBM PC, The IBM Personal Computer goes mass market and helps revolutionize the
way the world does business. Time Magazine gives its “Person of the Year” award to the
Personal Computer.
2001: Carbon Nanotube transistors for computer chips

Nobel prize winners of IBM :
1. Dr. Leo Esaki, for the invention of semiconductors in 1973.
2. Gerd K. Binning and Heinrich Rohrer, for the invention of scanning tunneling microscopy in
1986
3. J.Georg Bednorz and IBM Fellow Alex Muller, for the invention of High Temperature
Superconductivity in 1987
