Course Description
This Intermediate course is focused upon self-discovery through performances that derive from
the creation and delivery of professional presentations. Special attention is given to becoming
a more effective communicator by transforming the written word into dynamic oral
presentations. Self-confidence will build as the student is given hands-on, practical experience
and exposure to output creative presentations and feel comfortable speaking in front of a
crowd.
Course Objectives
1. Speak with energy, conviction, confidence and enthusiasm.
2. Adapt writing for the ear.
3. Present information clearly and directly.
4. Demonstrate confidence and mastery of the materials covered in class.
Professionalism
A professional business-like attitude is a must if you are to succeed in the marketplace.
Professionalism means being fully prepared, having a positive attitude, being punctual,
participating fully and being courteous to others. This is an intensive, interactive course.
Students must be prepared to fully engage themselves with the material and participate in an
active manner. Final marks will reflect your level of professionalism.

2. Every week, the designated class captain or assistant captain will be responsible for taking
attendance and checking prep sheets. Prep sheets will prove that you have previewed the
language focus that will be discussed in class.
Professionalism will be earned by making yourself available, unique and memorable. The
more a student engages with the material, the greater amount of participation marks will be
awarded.
There will be one written quiz near the end of the semester that reviews the theory learned in
class.
In addition, each student will be required to make one short in-class presentation on a given
topic.
Students must also demonstrate their absorption of the material by giving one midterm speech
and one final speech.
