F2P will become the primary business model with regards the monetization of video games,
by revenue, across all platforms within the next five years.
The monetization strategies we currently implement are:
F2P is one of a variety of monetization strategies
being utilised by leading developers; however, 74%
of all developers surveyed adopt a F2P model
on at least one game produced.
67% of video games executives believe that F2P will become
the dominant game monetization business model in the next five
years, with only 8% disagreeing.
F2P games generate on average around
$2-3 per user; however, a significant proportion
of game developers – 37.6% – see lower
monetization per user. Only 16.8% receive
more than the $3 average revenue per user.
The landscape of games monetization has changed
dramatically in the last three years. Free-2-Play (F2P) has
become the single biggest business disruptor within the
video games industry.
