Assure Method
Teaching Holiday traditions to 4thgraders. There are 20 students 11 girls, and 9 boys. There are 2
Muslims, 3 Jewish and 2 African Americans.
Analyze learners: My fourth grade class consists of 20 students 11 are girls and 9 are boys. Of
my 20 students 2 are Muslims, 3 are Jewish and 2 are African Americans. They are all around
the age of 9 years old and they all come from different religious backgrounds and different
beliefs.
State Objectives: My fourth grade class will describe the holiday traditions of Veterans Day;
they will also understand the importance of why we celebrate Veterans Day. They will use
photographs, videos, a story, and a class discussion to accomplish this, there will also be a visit
from a Veteran so that the students can ask any questions that they have about the holiday. They
will achieve an understanding of 80% in a one week time span.
Select the 3 M’s: I will use a power point presentation to talk about the history and some of the
traditions of Veterans Day. I will also use pictures and videos to illustrate the traditions of
Veterans Day such as parades, the President placing a wreath on the Tomb of the Unknowns at
Arlington National Cemetery in Virginia. I will also have a Veteran come in and explain what’s
it’s like to be a Veteran and how the traditions of Veterans Day are important. I will have my
children ask questions to help better their understanding of Veterans Day.
Evaluate: I will use class discussion and have my students write a short paragraph about what
they learned about Veterans Day. I will also evaluate them as I am teaching with questions about
what I have covered.
