- If you are not collecting your own data, there are many, many data sourcesMany data sources in every country: range from int’l orgs to governments to commercial, academic and non-profit organizationsData repositories provide a central resource to get dataIndicator databases contain comparable indicators and references to source dataWorking with a lot of data sources at IHME: tedious task to find relevant and useful data
- True for all kinds of data, not just health dataFinding out about relevant dataNavigating sites in different languagesWebsites change often (layout, hard to navigate) or are not availableMultiple titles of datasets, e.g. Azerbaijan DHS 2006 = MICS 2006, Niger 2006 same thingDates get mixed up (e.g. data collection vs. publication)Lots of data stuck in text and other documents (unstructured data)Getting access to the dataFinding a data providerGetting background on the data

- Information on population includes information about information on population healthBesides the obvious need for this kind of tool, it fits particularly well with IHME’s mission
