5. NVQs National Vocational Qualifications are a set of work-based qualifications which recognises an individual’s ability to carry out a particular job role to the national standards. NVQs are vocational awards that are achieved through assessment and training. Stand alone NVQs can be funded by the LSC through Train to Gain or entry to employment programmes.

9. Apprenticeships and Advanced Apprenticeships are nationally designed work-based learning programmes for people who have left full-time education or are already in employment. Apprentices learn on the job, building up knowledge and skills that are directly related to their employer's business. At the same time, they are working with GP to develop the skills that will lead to a nationally-recognised qualification. Train to Gain As part of the Train to Gain programme, GP can offer Employees a range of qualifications to chose from: NVQ, which includes Skills for Life, in any subject relevant to the employee's role Other qualifications Essential business skills such as communication skills, report writing, maths for work
11. Apprenticeships (Level 2) Lasts approximately 12 months depending on the vocational sector and learning needs. Advanced Apprenticeships (Level 3) Lasts approximately 2 years depending on vocational sector and learning needs. 13. The term Technical Certificate is a generic term for knowledge-based vocationally related qualifications that will be delivered alongside NVQs in Apprenticeship Frameworks. The Technical Certificate will support the learning required for the NVQ and provide a basis for progression. Some Technical Certificates will include an element of external assessment. External assessment is likely to consist of one of the following: case study work multiple choice items centrally-set projects or assignments written tests Technical Certificates

15. Electronic nvq is a secure World Wide Web based management system for the assessment and verification of competence based qualifications. Hosted on, and accessible via the Internet, the system facilitates easy communication between learners, managers, assessors and verifiers using standard web pages. It provides learners with secure online portfolios improving the efficiency, security and flexibility of assessment procedures. This "anywhere, anytime" accessibility gives obvious significant benefits over an in-house network server based 'e-portfolio' or 'e-assessment' system. Learners will be assessed using the very latest electronic and technical assessment methods that are non intrusive.
