John looks to see who’s talking, and then he tells us what he sees ,[object Object],[object Object]

The overall picture is of God's messenger, from the Book of Daniel ,[object Object],[object Object]

John's description is almost identical to the divine messenger in Daniel 10 ,[object Object],[object Object],[object Object],[object Object]

First, there is the location and attire of the individual ,[object Object],[object Object],[object Object]

Who is this priest? ,[object Object],[object Object],[object Object],[object Object]

Daniel 7:13 is the most often quoted verse from Daniel in the NT ,[object Object],[object Object],[object Object]

Jesus used Daniel 7:13 as the text for his coming in judgment ,[object Object]

His hearers understood that he was claiming to be Daniel's "Son of Man" ,[object Object]

The NT picks up the theme of Jesus coming in the clouds ,[object Object],[object Object]

Other parts of the description show that John is in the presence of deity ,[object Object]

His voice is "like the voice of many waters" - a description from Ezekiel ,[object Object]

He has "a sharp two-edged sword" coming out of his mouth ,[object Object]

Here, he is the High Priest; later he will be the Divine Warrior ,[object Object]

God has sent a herald to John as he did to Daniel ,[object Object],[object Object],[object Object],[object Object]

"The First and the Last" is another clear claim to be God ,[object Object],[object Object]

This is none other than Jesus, our High Priest, and he claims to be God! ,[object Object]

WHAT CHRIST THINKS OF THE CHURCHES ,[object Object],[object Object]

The City ,[object Object],[object Object],[object Object],[object Object],[object Object],[object Object]

Luke tells about Paul's work in Ephesus & the spread of the gospel ,[object Object]

Ephesus had been made a free city by the Roman government in 98 BC ,[object Object],[object Object],[object Object]

Paul was a citizen of Rome because he was born in another free city ,[object Object],[object Object],[object Object]

Ephesus was as important to religion as it was to commerce ,[object Object],[object Object],[object Object]

You may remember the riot in Ephesus ,[object Object]

The riot involved the entire populace and took place in the largest venue ,[object Object]

The riot was only quelled when the mayor intervened ,[object Object]

The riot turned on conflict between monotheism and polytheism ,[object Object],[object Object]

The Messenger ,[object Object],[object Object],[object Object],[object Object],[object Object]

The Message ,[object Object],[object Object],[object Object],[object Object],[object Object],[object Object]

The church began with unsurpassed zeal ,[object Object],[object Object],[object Object],[object Object]

The church is doctrinally correct, but spiritually destitute ,[object Object],[object Object],[object Object]

The Bible begins with man in fellowship with God at the tree of life ,[object Object]

When man sinned, God banished him from access to the tree of life ,[object Object]

Here, Jesus promises the overcomers a bite of the tree of life ,[object Object]

He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the assemblies ,[object Object],[object Object]

The Messenger ,[object Object],[object Object],[object Object],[object Object]

It is also he "who was dead, and has come to life" ,[object Object],[object Object],[object Object],[object Object],[object Object]

The Message ,[object Object],[object Object],[object Object],[object Object]

Ten is the number that signifies when someone says "Enough!" ,[object Object],[object Object],[object Object],[object Object]

We say "three strikes and you're out!" With God, people get ten strikes ,[object Object]

Ten plagues and the Red Sea should have convinced Israel to trust God! ,[object Object],[object Object]

God gave Israel ten opportunities to change its heart and obey him ,[object Object]

"Ten days" is the promise that God will say "Enough!" and will intervene ,[object Object]

The force of the text is "Be faithful, even if it costs you your life" ,[object Object],[object Object],[object Object],[object Object]

The Promise ,[object Object],[object Object],[object Object],[object Object],[object Object]

This reminds us of Jesus' words ,[object Object],[object Object]

The City ,[object Object],[object Object],[object Object]

Until then, papyrus had been the main writing material in the world ,[object Object],[object Object]

Religion ,[object Object],[object Object],[object Object]

The city was the official center in Asia for the imperial cult ,[object Object],[object Object],[object Object]

The Message ,[object Object],[object Object],[object Object]

What is the teaching of Baalam and of the Nicolaitans? ,[object Object],[object Object],[object Object],[object Object],[object Object]

God allowed Baalam to go, but he could only say what the Lord allowed ,[object Object],[object Object],[object Object]

The Promise ,[object Object],[object Object]

To the Christian, it is a reminder of Jesus, himself ,[object Object]

The second promise is "a white stone with a new name written on it" ,[object Object],[object Object],[object Object],[object Object]

The "new name" is a reminder of God's promise/threat to Israel ,[object Object],[object Object],[object Object]
