- The Belgian Health Care Knowledge Centre is a Belgian Federal organism of public interest
- KCE counts 56 people, among them, 40 FTE researchers (called experts)Its mission is to give advice to the public authorities when they take decisions on health care and health insurance by carrying out studies and producing reports.KCE is not involved in the decision taking process itself, nor in the execution of the decisions. However, it has to point out the best possible solutions, in a context of an accessible healthcare of high-quality, and taking into account an increasing demand and budgetary limits.The three KCE research domains:The analysis and the development of recommendations for good clinical practice (Good Clinical Practice)The evaluation of new clinical technologies and medicines (Health Technology Assessment)The organization and financing of health care (Health Services Research )KCE Reports are published under Creative Commons licence BY-NC-ND
- 1) KCE Reports are freely available on KCE Website 2)KCE reports are described on the KCE Library catalogueTo support the Green road, the library catalogue also acts as an OAI-PMH compliant repository : this allows to encode the description of reports only once (important in the case of a one person library).
- KCE Library catalogue / Institutional Repository is harvested by several OAI-PMH aggregators (e.g. OAIster, DRIVER), helping to enhance the visibility of KCE reports
- KCE experts also publish articles in International peer reviewed journals to enhance dissemination of results to the field Health Care practicioners
- To support the Gold road, the library supports authors by providing an evaluation of journals where to publish, this evaluation is based on several criteria:- Visibility: at least PubMed- Impact: based on the rank of the journal in its category using impact tools - Access: open access, or self archiving policy
- Thelibrary uses a toolbox to providethisjounralevaluationDOAJ to identify open access journals (Gold journals)Sherpa / Romeo to evaluate Preprint policy (Green journals) - Scimago and Eigen factor to identify impact Due to a warning from peers in mailing lists regarding hard marketing activities of some publishers, we recently addedBeall’s list that lists “Potential, possible, or probable predatory scholarly open-access publishers
- Next orientation of our Open Access strategy Continue to support the Green road: the institutional repository will get a new set containing the Journal articles published by KCE researchers Continue to support the Gold road by advising authors about journal open access policy and impactKCE also participates to and support Open Access initiatives by informing partners at Belgian and European / International level
