BigMove Press release No.4 2013
11 April 2013
‘The house is well in order’ – the Construction Competence Team of the
heavy goods transport cooperative BigMove at the bauma.
“If your own heavy goods transport company has evolved from a construction enterprise, you
know exactly what you’re dealing with when it comes to specialized transports for the
construction industry – such as problematic access roads with total tow weights exceeding
60 tons – and the spatial access restrictions on construction sites. The so-called ‘home
stretch’ on the major construction site often present special challenges to our drivers,
meaning that they will often have to move the construction machinery themselves when
loading and unloading. If and when you are experienced in the disposition of facilities and
meeting these challenges from your own experience in the construction business, then your
staff usually also have the right expertise”, say Markus Geser, CEO of Geser Spedition and
founding member of BigMove, describing the special experiences of companies involved in
heavy transport, earth-moving etc. All around street building, infra-structure projects and
rebuilding BigMovers have the experience and expertise through their own earth moving
companies and specialized transports. This is why BigMover Giebel has evolved from a mere
construction company to a construction enterprise comprising a heavy transport service more
than 60 years ago.
It is no surprise that the more construction-related members of the cooperative joined in an
internal BigMove Competence Team, to combine this range of expertise in special transports
and to exploit this. Special transports are designed more efficiently on the basis of many
1
2. years of special experiences on the constructions sites. Parts of the vehicle fleet were
constructed specifically to meet the special requirements of the construction industry. The
respective special trailers need to be light and flexible, so that specific road conditions and
constructions site circumstances can be mastered on a short-term basis for all involved
companies to ensure smooth operations on all sites served. For this purpose vehicles have
been constructed to meet the complex permit situations, so that a rapid and flexible action is
possible regionally. Because the requirements of construction site operators have become
more and more restricted as to space and deadlines, any customized work must be made
available using a clever system with preset road permits and a regionally available and
additionally combinable framework of fleet vehicles. For the freight good class groups of 40
to 90 toms six own fleet categories have been developed to cover all customer requirements,
representing about 50% of all the BigMove transports for the construction sector. “The house
is well in order”, as Horst Wallek, BigMove AG CEO states, “and so we are looking forward to
the bauma.”
There BigMovers will not only plan the exchange of experience between transporters and
constructions companies, including the special challenges for special construction sites and
modern requirements there. Interested persons are welcome on the BigMove Stand 412 in
Hall B5 to get detailed information on the efficiency of the Competence Team Construction. It
is our intention to further push into the market with the special requirements set of kits
available. “Just as pragmatically as we implement our individual transportation tasks, the
same way our heavy transport kit can also get involved and act in the sphere of the
requirements of the building and construction industry.” On this year’s bauma we intend to
convey this message and distinguish our competence for single transports and entire
transport projects, as the whole BigMove team. Wallek concludes, “where else but on this the
greatest construction and building fair worldwide, this is the prime platform!”

3. “In the fields of specialized transports, maintenance and storage we are there as a single-
stop provider for our customers, to all extents. For this our company is well-equipped, and
the vehicles are best-suited: long hydraulic access ramps with low angles of 7 to 10 degrees,
ramps and floors are fitted with slip-proof flooring material (friction coefficient 0.66 µ).
Excavator stick modules reduce the heights of vehicles and large devices. And the compact
construction permits the access to restricted sites. The vehicles are available wherever
BigMove vehicles are available. Because they are of compatible design, it is easy to
exchange individual vehicles, and so we are on the whole and regionally more flexible.”
Christiane Giebel, CEO, Giebel Spezialtransporte, BigMove founding member
