3. PGPX-Multiplying Experience
Early this year 80 professionals came together at IIM Ahmedabad in a challenging business environment; some to be part of India's
growth story, some to expand their sphere of responsibilities, some to start entrepreneurial ventures; all in a common desire to
enhance their repertoire of skills.
When this group, armed with deep industry experience across sectors and continents, brainstorms with India’s best management
faculty in the PGPX programme, it doesn't just result in an invigorating outcome, but creates a very stimulating learning process.
The first three batches of PGPX created new benchmarks with companies selecting participants for top leadership roles. The PGPX
Class of 2010 promises to exceed expectations in its quest to build and transform Indian and global businesses.
4. Message From the Director
Established in 1961, Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad (IIMA) is recognized
globally for excellence in education and research in management. It is the first and the only
EQUIS accredited management school in India. The alumni of IIMA occupy key positions in
a variety of organizations. The continued demand for its graduates by the corporate as well
as the non-corporate sector is evidence of the quality of the broad based management
education IIMA continues to impart.
Recognizing the need for managerial skills at mid and senior levels in organizations, the
Institute launched the one-year Post Graduate Programme in Management for Executives
(PGPX) in 2006-07. The graduates from the first three batches have been recruited
enthusiastically by domestic and international organizations for key senior managerial
positions.
The Institute is proud to present the fourth batch of PGPX to the recruiters. The batch
consists of 80 participants with diverse academic background and significant work
experience in the global context. The profile of the batch is comparable to those of the best
business schools in the world. I am certain that with their extensive cross-cultural work
experience and the knowledge and skills in management acquired through the rigorous
academic process at IIMA, they would add immense value to any organization they choose
to serve.
Professor Samir Barua
5. Message From the Programme Chair
I am pleased to introduce to you the Class of 2010 of the Post-Graduate Programme for Executives (PGPX). To meet the
industry need for global executives with substantial work experience, IIMA designed and launched this one-year, full time
residential programme in the year 2005-06 with an objective “to develop bright, enthusiastic and aspirational executives as
management leaders and change agents in the global arena.” The participants of the previous three batches were success-
fully placed in various organizations in the roles ranging from senior managers to CXO's and they are doing very well.
The 80 participants of the Class of 2010 have been carefully selected from large national and international applicant pools
based on their academic profile, analytical ability and significant work experience. The average GMAT score of this Batch is
722 and average work experience is of 10 years, of which, five years is international work-experience in 13 diverse indus-
tries, including Banking, Consulting, Information Technology, Pharmaceuticals and Telecom, and their roles in General
Management, Project Management, HR, Finance, Marketing and Operations.
This programme is very rigorous and aims at developing general management capabilities of practicing executives, with a
focus on change management and on managing across borders and cultures. This unique programme involves more than
650 class hours spread across 50-60 courses. The pedagogy involves case discussions within and across learning groups,
customized function-oriented segments, industry leader interactions, the International Immersion Programme and an
Industry Project. This is facilitated by excellent learning resources of IIMA.
As chairperson of the programme, I am proud of the progress made by the Class of 2010 with support and commitment
from my faculty colleagues. I am certain that organizations would gain immensely from utilizing their rich experience,
commitment, integrity and knowledge in management acquired through the rigorous programme at IIMA. I wish them the
very best in their careers.
Professor Shailesh Gandhi
6. Message From the Placement Chairperson
The Class of 2010 PGPX is a talented community of 80 carefully selected managers from
diverse industries. The participants' extensive real-world experience complemented with
business learning from IIM-A has made them high-quality executives who can be readily
absorbed into senior managerial to CXO positions in the corporate world. The IIMA
pedagogy focused on ethical and socially responsible leadership has strengthened their
existing managerial capabilities, enabling them to aspire for the leadership positions in
Indian and global firms. This brochure gives you a glimpse of the breadth of talent within the
Class of 2010 and provides concise information about the program and contact details.
Recruitment at IIM Ahmedabad offers you the choice of a variety of programmes to search
for your firm's talent needs. If your firm needs bright young management graduates you
would meet some of the finest in our PGP students. If your firm needs seasoned
campaigners ready to take on roles in middle, senior and top management in a variety of
roles and industries and hit the ground running, you would find them in our PGPX students. If
your firm needs sector specific talent in agribusiness, our PGP-ABM students would be the
first place to consider. If your firm needs a senior level professional with years of experience
in Government, Defence and public sector, look no further than our PGP-PMP students. And
if you are looking for analytical researchers focusing on a specific functional domain, you
might find the perfect match in our doctoral students. This breadth of talent is perhaps
unparalleled in India, making it the first stop in your recruitment process. We are confident
that you would not need to look any further.
As Chairperson of the placement committee, it is my privilege to invite you for placements at
IIM Ahmedabad.

11. Projects
The PGPX programme includes application of academic learning through three projects
across 135 sessions – a faculty-guided Individual Research Project (IRP), an industry
sponsored International Immersion Programme (IIP), and a simulation-based Capstone
Project.
Individual Research Project
Under guidance of a faculty, participants study an industry or a company, using the
Institute’s resources and interactions with stakeholders. Upon completion, the
participants deliver a business plan, a study paper, or an industry note for evaluation by a
faculty panel.
International Immersion Programme
This enables participants to apply their learning in a different environment from their
“home culture”, and to take effective business decisions in a multi-cultural context.
Participants attend a week long programme at international business schools in Europe,
US, China and Africa. In the four weeks following that, participants pursue sponsored
consulting projects in the areas including M&A, revenue models, financial product
development and balanced score-cards across the globe. Some of our past sponsors
have been Unilever, IBM, Microsoft, NCDEX, Delta Lloyd, Cognizant Solutions, Intel
Capital and Yes Bank.
Capstone Project
This is the culmination of the programme. During this period, participants are asked to
resolve difficult business situations, working in large multidisciplinary teams against
tough timelines, in a simulated business environment. This helps test and develop skills
in the rational, individual and social dimensions of leadership.
Some of the projects executed by PGPX students of earlier batches are:
• Developing strategy and a complete revenue model for a mobile remittance service
in the US-Mexico corridor
• Feasibility study for an international company to enter Indian markets
• Developing a framework for a company to evaluate its acquisition successes
• Devising a methodology for the implementation of activity based costing at a
firm in the Middle East
• Developing a new product offering and market expansion for a financial services
company
