2. Perugia is an Italian town of 169,290 pepole, capital of
the province and the region of Umbria. City of art,
rich in history and monuments, has a good cultural and
economic development and is a destination
for tourists and students.

3.  Perugia was founded in the 4th century a.C by the Etruscans. who
built the first walls of the city.
 With the battle of Sentino (295 BC), Umbria was dominated by
the Romans.
 Perugia was dominated in 493 by the Ostrogoths.
 Perugia was conquered in 537 by the Byzantines.
 in the eighth century Perugia came under the influence of the
papacy.
 In 1860, Umbria became part of
the Italian Republic

4. The Fontana Maggiore is the symbol of
the historic center of Perugia. It is
decorated with bas-reliefs carved by
Nicola and Giovanni Pisano and is
divided into two pools. The bas-reliefs
show scenes of
traditional agrarian and feudal
culture, the months of the year with
the signs of the zodiac, the Bible
and the history of Rome.
The Rocca Paolina was built between 1540 and
1543 by Pope Paul III. It was, until 1860, the
old symbol of papal power. The
building, designed by Antonio da Sangallo,
was built on the houses of the Baglioni
family and occupied part of the historic
center.

5.  Cathedral of San Lorenzo was designed in 1300 by Fra Bevignate. It was
built in 1345 and completed in 1490. The external decoration of pink and
white marble was never completed. The consecration of the
cathedral was in 1587. The interior decoration was completed in the
eighteenth century with the addition of paint, stucco ,gilding and marble.
 The National Gallery of Umbria is a beautiful museum. It preserves
the largest collection of works of art in Umbria, from the thirteenth to the
nineteenth century.

6.  The Etruscan Arch is one of the seven gates of Etruscan walls of
Perugia. It was built in the third century a.C. and renovation was made by
Augustus in 40 a.C. after his victory in the war of Perugia.
 Palazzo dei Priori is the seat of the municipality of Perugia.

7. Perugia has many bars, shops and boutiques, especially in the old
town, where there is Corso Vannucci, the main street. It is a
very important street for shopping, it has many good shops and
beautiful monuments.
In October there is Eurochocolate, annual event dedicated to
chocolate.

8. Perugia has two universities:
 The University for Foreigners, founded in 1925. It is the
oldest Italian university for foreigners and specializes in
teaching and diffusion of Italian language and civilization.
 The University of Perugia, which was one of the first universities
in Italy.
