Dear Judges:
Hello, my name is Parker Nunnally and I am planning on attending Young Harris College
next year on a baseball scholarship. While attending Young Harris I will most likely pursue a
major in biology with a minor in business. I chose to do my senior project on Therapeutic Riding
because I have been volunteering in this field for four years now and it is very interesting to me.
After hearing my facilitator always complain about the current barn lay out, I decided to take her
ideas and design my own facility.
For my product I designed and made the blue prints for a Therapeutic Riding facility so
that it benefits the children more. My research paper topic is “How Does Therapeutic Riding
Benefit Special Needs Children?” After my research I learned a lot of things that the children
needed and that I could use in creating my product. Without my research I would not have
known what to put in my final product however, I did come upon a few obstacles. I first did not
know who my facilitator would be; I had trouble figuring out when to meet with my facilitator
since I play a year round sport, and also what I would make. After meeting with my facilitator
we finally worked through these obstacles and got my project done.
The career that goes along with my project is occupational therapy with special needs
children. After finishing this project I cannot see myself going into this career. It is a lot of fun
working with the children, but the pay is not great and the hours of work are bad. I do want to
pursue a career in veterinary medicine or something along those lines. I have also learned a lot
about myself from a work habit stand point. I am a big procrastinator and I also do not manage
my time well which made this project even harder for me.
After completing the Senior Project I do believe that it was a great learning experience. I
learned a lot about myself and about my topic. Also, not only did I learn a lot but this project
really put my name out in the community so more people know who I am.
Sincerely,
Parker Nunnally
