4. The mosque was built in different phases. It was started by Abd- Al Rahman I, but it was enlarged by Adb-Al- Rahman II, Al-Hakan II and Al- Mansur. It was built over the ancient Visigothic church of San Vicente. Many of the materials used to build the mosque were recycled from ancient Roman buildings (pillars, columns,…)

12. Al Hamra means “red castle”. It´s an ancient palace and fortress built on a hilly terrace in the south eastern edge of Granada, on the banks of the river Darro. It was built by the Nasrid dynasty between the 13th- 15th centuries.
