Base function Collect across the different stages of the supply and distribution
chain key information about specific food product batches and
publish them on the web for consumers’ use
Focus Info about freshness, production mode and region, working
conditions, etc. relating the finished product and its major
ingredients. Optionally: info about its physical and commercial
distribution process too.
Benefits Reinforcing market rating for products that can leverage value
factors such as, depending on the case: freshness, local origin,
sustainable process, respect of tradition, etc..
Communication The info gathered with TrackEat can be used to:

Applicability scope Potentially applicable to the whole supply chain. Some of the
supply chain actors would possibly participate actively to data
collection, other ones would just be “mapped” and assigned a
static description.
Relationship with TrackEat has a different purpose and orientation with respect to
other IT tools for the traditional traceability solutions meant to grant traceability of
food traceability defective batches. OkiTracki would normally be less extensive
yet considerably deeper in term of analysis. Moreover, data are
primarily collected for publishing, rather than for internal usage.
Deployment Typically gradual. Could be associated to a formal certification
process to emphasize and secure the application of a formalized
procedure in collecting and processing data.

Terminology adopted in the next slides:
• batch: a production lot. Could also correspond to a specific process
phase referred to one or more input batches.
• Batche links: links declared between product batches and their
ingredient batches mapping composition at batch level from the
field/stable to the shelf.
• Action/event: a single step made or an event occurring or a status
measured / detected pertaining to a specific batch.
• Acivity type and action/event type: a 2-level classification of the
action/events tracked (every action/event will be assigned and
action/event code; these are grouped into “activity types”
