3. What Is Augmented Reality (AR)?
• A combination of
– a real scene viewed by a
user and
– a virtual scene
generated by a
computer that augments
the scene with
additional information.
4. Augmented Reality
•System augments the real
world scene
•User maintains a sense of
presence in real world
•Needs a mechanism to
combine virtual and real
worlds
•Hard to register real and
virtual
Virtual Reality
•Totally immersive
environment
•Senses are under control of
system
•Need a mechanism to feed
virtual world to user
•Hard to make VR world
interesting

7. TECHNOLOGY USED
HARDWARE: The kind of hardware used is
determined by the process for which the AR
system is being developed.
• Processor
• Input Devices
• Display Device
• Sensors
16. SENSORS
o GPS sensors
o Solid State Compass
o Accelerometer
o Gyroscopes
o Proximity Sensors
17. SOFTWARE
“How realistically well the software
integrates the augmentation with the real
world.”
o Derive real-world coordinates through
the images from camera.
o The above process is called image
registration.
o The registered images are then mapped
with relevant virtual data by the inbuilt
computer.
o Simultaneous Localization and Mapping
(SLAM)
18. APPLICATIONS OF AUGUMENTED REALITY
MILITARY
EDUCATION
MANUFACTURING
ARCHITECTURE AND INTERIOR DESIGNING
AUTOMOBILES
SPORTS AND ENTERTAINMENT
27. WAYS TO TRY AR YOURSELF:
• Layar Browser
• Google Glasses (App)
• Google Glass
• Copter Attack (Android Game)
• Augment (Android App)
• Nokia City Lens (Windows Phone)
28. PROBLEMS OF AR
• Measured location may not be
accurate.
• May cause visible registration error.
• Environment may be cluttered with
information and become unreadable.
• Real time rendering problems.
Visualization Problems:
29. SCOPE IN THE FUTURE
• Enhanced media applications ,like pseudo
holographic virtual screens, virtual surround
cinema.
• Replacement of cell phones: eye dialing, insertion
of information directly into environment.
• You may learn things about the city you've lived in
for years just by pointing your AR-enabled phone
at a nearby park or building.

30. CONCLUSION
Augmented reality will further blur the line
between what's real and what's computer
generated by enhancing what we see, hear, feel. It
has possibilities beyond our imagination and
perception. It will have huge applications in
almost every field.
