Have you ever gone to check your email quickly and then when you look at the clock an hour has flown by? I know I have, and this is a classic example of how time wasters can rob your of your precious work time, even when you work from home. However, if you keep yourself aware of what you’re spending your day doing you can avoid falling into the time waster trap. Simply surfing the internet can become a huge time sink. One minute you’re looking up some relevant business statistics and a few clicks later you discover you’ve been reading about the pink dolphins of the Amazon river for the last two hours. When your fire up your web browser to look something up, stay focused. Set a time for ten minutes, if you haven’t found what you’re looking for when it goes off then reconsider whether it’s worth continuing your search at that moment. Stay on track and out of the time trap! Email can be another massive time waster. Chances are that you’re going to need to use email to conduct your business, and that’s fine. However, consider creating a separate email account for business that is different from your personal email. This way you won’t get distracted by personal emails in your inbox during the day. When you work from home, you’re the only person you can count on to keep yourself productive. Be critical of how you spend your time, and only do things that contribute to the growth of your business.
