⢠L iquid crystal d isplays (L C D s) have m aterials which com bine the properties of
both liquid s and crystals. Rather than having a m elting point, they have a
tem perature range within which the m olecules are alm ost as m obile as they
would be in a liquid , but are grouped together in an ord ered form sim ilar to a
crystal.
⢠C onstruction:-An L C D consists of two glass panels, with the liquid crystal
m aterial sand witched in between them .

16. gsm modem
A GSM modem is a specialized
type of m od em which accepts a
SIM card , and operates over a
subscription to a m obile
operator, just like a m obile
phone. From the m obile operator
perspective, a GSM m od em
looks just like a m obile phone.
When a GSM m od em is
connected to a com puter, this
allows the com puter to use the
GSM m od em to com m unicate
over the m obile network. While
these GSM m od em s are m ost
frequently used to provid e
m obile internet connectivity,
m any of them can also be used
for send ing and receiving SM S
and M M S m essages.

17. gsm network
The structure of a GSM network:-
The network is structured into a
num ber of d iscrete sections:
â˘The Base Station Subsystem (the base
stations and their controllers).
â˘The
N etwork and Switching Subsystem
(the part of the network m ost
sim ilar to a fixed network). This is
som etim es also just called the core
network.
â˘The GPRS C ore N etwork (the
optional part which allows packet
based Internet connections).
â˘The O perations support system (O SS)
for m aintenance of the network.
