• “Hillsong United is an Australian Christian rock and worship band. They started as the youth ministry
band from Hillsong Church in Australia.”
• Their music is praise and worship with a contemporary style that is a mix of contemporary Christian
music and mainstream rock. The band was formerly named "United Live" and was led by Reuben
Morgan and Marty Sampson.
• United Live made its first album on 1999 when worship pastor, Darlene Zschech suggested to Reuben
that they make an album. (This has been mentioned by Reuben in the United We Stand DVD in the
documentary section) Following the advice, Reuben and Marty led the team to make their very first
album, Everyday.
• The band has toured in a number of countries, and their 2006 release United We Stand was the best
selling album of 2006 in Canada at Christian retail stores.”

Hillsong United band engage effectively with their fans.
• Although the Hillsong United band posts their plans, and the
music clip, photos, etc., what they are not doing when they post
things is that they do not make comments after the initial post. So
fans make comments on what the Hillsong United band posts.

• The contents of the social networking sites as in online spaces and the
concert as in physical spaces are pretty similar.
• However, the main difference is all the things posted on the social
networking sites are digitalized and all the things happening at the
concert are live music. It is effective to have both online and physical
spaces for the fans to see them more often and make them feel closer to
the group.

their fans? (Part 3)
• Social networking sites are a big help for the Hillsong United band to
engage with their audience consistently by updating their photos.
• Facebook is a good example of easy access in engaging with their
audience consistently. Most people have their own accounts on
Facebook.
• Fans can easily and consistently approach the Hillsong United band’s
page and get new information about the band through social networking
sites.
17. Lastly…
• I went to their world concert in South Korea in 2011
• It was a great experience going to their concert. In the beginning of
their concert, they mentioned that they wanted to worship God
with us not that they just did the performances.
• Keeping this in mind, I praised with the Hillsong United band while
standing up for about 3 hours!
