Good morning everyone. I’m Una Daly, the director of the Community College Consortium for OER and I would like to tell you about our community of practice focused on OER adoption at community colleges.
Founded in 2007 by Dr. Martha Kanter, former undersecretary of education, she had a vision that community college students and faculty could benefit from the adoption by enhancing teaching and learning and makiting it more affordable and accessible for students..
Seven system offices: California, Connecticut, Florida, Michigan, Oregon, Virginia, and Washington. Out 2015-16 members are College of Lake County Illinois, Bay College in Michigan, Alamo County College District, Salt Lake City College, and Northshore Community College, MA.
I’d like to introduce my esteemed executive board.
First of all our president, Quill West, OER Project Manager, at Pierce Community College.
Then we have four vice-presidents:
Lisa Young, co-chair of the Maricopa Millions OER Project who is faculty directly of the teaching and learning center at Scottsdale CC.
Preston Davis, director of Instruction at the Extended Leraning Institutte at NOVA and director of the OER-based Degree programs.
Christie Fierro, OER Coordinator, Communications faculty, and Instructional Designer at Tacoma Community College.
Cynthia Alexander, Distance Ed Coordinator, Faculty Chair of Education department.
Engagement: We meet regularly online to present and share best practices and schedule meetups at conferences. Different levels of participation depending on expertise, availability, and need.
Common understanding of finding, developing, and sharing high-quality OER to enhance teaching and learning
Share resources through webinars, email list, youtube, slideshare, twitter, and website.
OER strategies are evolving and changing and we go where our members need us to be.
