- Lot of people out there using mobile devices â 80,000 per day for iPhones between AT&T and Verizon While iPhone might have 4âŠor 5 iterations on phone and 2 for tablet, Android has 80 for phone and 30 for tablet â lots of choices, but challenging for developers Microsoft is still in the hunt with Windows Phone 7
- The market overview for the globe shows Symbian as a leader, yet no one in the room will crack open a Symbian deviceâŠthatâs because theyâre strong abroad Take a look at the US market and youâll see a different picture
- In 2008 market shares were pretty steady. Late 2009 marks a big shift as Android storms the market and Apple makes a steady ascent. Meanwhile others lose share
- Letâs take a look at the different offerings in terms of general stats, development and app marketplace. Youâll seem similarities and difference for each of the offerings on the next few slides. Those are good talking points.
- For those wishing to reach a broad audience, the challenge is the age-old write once-deploy anywhere problem. Is this possible? What are the advantages to this approach versus targeted client development?
- There are approaches and tools available. PhoneGap is but one example.
- While itâs possible to make âmobile web appsâ, the key is to be able to also access the devicesâ unique/extended feature sets. There frameworks that make this possible to varying degrees. You need to be able to access these features to deliver differentiated experiences to end users.
- These are a few of the leading frameworks for mobile web. We havenât really touched on tablets here, but the shape of the discussion is more or less the same. A main difference, however, is that tablets play a different role in the life of the consumer. In many cases, they are surrogates for the laptop/desktop environment, providing high-powered portable computing. For enterprises, they enable the field force with a new set of tools for selling and performing on-the-go business functions. This goes beyond just replacing the laptop or providing more than what can be accommodated on phone form factor.
