Editorial
t’s quite common to see companies looking for the perfect marketing plan, for
the ideal product, or for a one-in-a-million business plan. It is a sort of quest for
the Holy Grail.
How many times did you hear someone tell you that they had a great idea for a
fabulous product or service, one which will for sure make them rich?
Quite often, however, those great plans don’t really come up as planned, or don’t
even see the light of day.
Why? Well, in fact, it’s easier to have great ideas than to bring them to live
according to plan. Let me correct that: it’s much easier to have great ideas than to
bring them to live according to plan.
A great idea is something we can have at least once a
month! Yes, it’s true that some great companies or
products started as a quick drawing on a napkin. The
problem is that it takes a lot of work to bring ideas
from napkins to reality. You have to have enough
stamina and focus to never let go of your objectives; be
imaginative when you need to overcome the obstacles;
and have a team prepared to deal with
multidisciplinary issues, from finances to legal, from
sales to marketing, from project management to human resources management.
That demands a lot more from you than writing down a good idea on a napkin.
In other words, I think great products and services are usually a mix between great
ideas and great execution. My educated guess is that the mix is 5% of great ideas
and 95% of a consistent, hands-on, relentless execution.
Frotcom’s great idea has always been to create user-friendly effective tools for the
optimization of our customers’ fleets. But this idea would be not enough, had it not
been for the systematic focus and persistent effort of all stakeholders involved in
the project, from the initial founders to everybody currently involved in the
operations, in all the countries where the project is being delivered.
Two clear examples of this are depicted in this issue of Roadmap. After a few years
of a great work in the Romanian market, Frotcom Romania is growing and moved to
a new office. Frotcom Sierra Leone has face lifted its fleet and is now causing an
immediate impression amidst Freetown’s traffic.
That is why if I had to choose between a perfect business plan with a poor execution
team and an average business plan with a perfect execution, I would surely pick the
latter.

Case Study
Med Frigo is in command!
Med Frigo, a Greek company specialized in the transport of seafood, has gained
full online control of its fleet with Frotcom.
Med Frigo has been the largest Greek company actively transporting fresh and
frozen seafood products from Greece to other European countries and vice-versa,
since 1991. The company offers high standard International and National Transport
refrigeration services and Integrated Logistics services.
The fleet uses state-of-the-art technology and is perfectly maintained. The primary
concern is to ensure that it is constantly renewed in order to meet all European and
International standards.
With the aim of gaining full online control of its fleet, Med Frigo selected Frotcom.
According to Mr. Sotiris Marinakis,
Logistics Manager at Med Frigo,
“With the adoption of Frotcom and
the cooperation of Frotcom Greece,
we realized we have had several
benefits and explored new reporting
possibilities, facilitating the better
command of our fleet”.
With scheduled departures 365 days per year and an average of 450 refrigerated
truckloads per month, Med Frigo distributes to more than 400 destinations in
Europe every week (Italy, Spain, Portugal, France, England, Germany, Holland,
Austria, Belgium and Switzerland).
For a complete profile of Med Frigo visit the website here.
Roadmap congratulates the Frotcom Greece team for this successful project!
Did you know?
In the European Union,
compulsory tyre labels were
introduced to help shed light
on how tyres perform
The EU regulation sees tyres rated in
three areas: fuel efficiency, wet grip
and external noise.
On 1st
November 2012 the EU
regulation on labelling of tyres is
applicable. The label provides
information on fuel efficiency, wet
grip and external rolling noise
through clear pictograms. The label
allows consumers to make informed
choices when buying tyres, ranked
on a scale from A (best) to G (bad).
Legislation
The Regulation (EC) No 1222/2009
on the labelling of tyres (amended
by Regulation 228/2011 and
Regulation 1235/2011) aims to
provide end-users of vehicles with
clear and relevant information about
the quality of the tyre, and to guide
them towards choosing a product
which is more fuel efficient, has
better wet braking and is less noisy.

New Features
Improvements to the Search directions mechanism
Frotcom knows that sometimes fleet managers need
to plan a trip where a vehicle must visit a series of
locations – for instance customers – but in which the
order in which visits are made is not relevant: the
important thing is to minimize the total time or the
total mileage, reordering the points at will. This is
commonly called the traveling salesman problem or
TSP.
The new Search directions mechanism allows
companies to reorder the visiting points and the
return to the origin point (if specified by the
company), generating an optimized path.
This is now available in Frotcom accounts using
Google Maps.
New extensions to the Corridor Exit Alarm
The corridor exit alarm was created in Frotcom to detect when vehicles leave the
paths they were supposed to stick to. Sometimes fleet managers or even company
owners want to make sure that a vehicle is following the path which was assigned to
it. This alarm lets them know as soon as the vehicle abandons the right path.
Until now corridors would be created and used only to track one vehicle. Now
corridors are saved for future use as well. This allows companies to apply the same
corridors to several vehicles, without having to redefine them every time.
A new map option also allows companies to see the existing corridors. Their colours
can vary, depending on whether they are active or not, and also if one or more
vehicles have failed to travel inside the corridor. From now on it is also possible to
interact with visible corridors by right clicking on it.
Tip of the month
Subsistence allowances report
Some companies have to calculate
the subsistence allowances to pay to
their drivers, when they go to other
countries or regions.
So, how to generate the report?
In the Reports section, select the
Subsistence allowances report:
In the configuration panel, enter your
specifications:
The report will be generated. For
each vehicle/driver, the following
information is shown:
Week day - Day of the week
Date – Date
Driver - If more than one driver drove this
vehicle in the row “day + area”, only the
driver executing the last trip in the row
“day + area” will be displayed here.
Arrival in area - Time of day when the
vehicle arrived to the area; or 00:00 if the
vehicle was already in the area when that
day started.
Exit from area - Time of day when the
vehicle left the area; or 23:59 if the
vehicle was still in the area when that day
ended.
Area - Name of area. Usually a Country,
although you can specify other types of
areas: Districts, Places and Zones.
Stay - Total duration of the stay in that
area. This is not the driving time, it’s the
complete duration of the stay, with
vehicle moving or stopped.
You can also Export to Excel.

News and Events
Frotcom Romania opens new office
Frotcom Romania is growing and has moved to a bigger office. The new office is still
in Piatra Neamt, in the historical region of eastern Romania. The new office has
perfect conditions to receive customers, host meetings and make demos.
ROADMAP congratulates Frotcom Romania for this important step.
Frotcom Sierra Leone turns its vehicles into mobile billboards
Frotcom Sierra Leone decided to print Frotcom’s logo in its vehicles: 3 motorcycles
and one big 4x4. What better way to display Frotcom’s company image, than by
placing the logo and slogan on its own vehicles?
According to Penny Doyle, Director at Frotcom Sierra Leone, “The motorcycles have
been fantastic tools for the technicians because they can move more efficiently to
visit customers for installations, inspections or just for courtesy visits. The
motorcycles also travel up country to the mining areas where many Frotcom Sierra
Leone’s clients are based. The 4x4 vehicle is used for client visits and it is probably
the only vehicle in Freetown with signage of this sort, which literally turns heads.”
With its bold design, Frotcom is conquering the minds and hearts of users. By
establishing Frotcom’s brand identity in the vehicles, the company will ensure that
more people are aware of the business and more people will consequently consider
Frotcom for tracking services needed.
Roadmap congratulates Frotcom Sierra Leone for this initiative.
