who believes and is baptized will be saved; but
he who does not believe will be condemned”

Three questions before us
this morning.
1. What is the gospel?
2. Why is the gospel so important?
3. How do I obey the gospel?

What is the Gospel?
Some possible answers one might hear:
• The Gospel is the first four books of the New Testament.
• The Gospel is the Bible.
• The Gospel is the New Testament.
• The Gospel is the word of God.
Let’s consider what Paul says is the center or
core of what the Gospel is.

What is the Gospel.
Moreover, brethren, I declare to you the gospel
which I preached to you, which also you
received and in which you stand, 2by which
also you are saved, if you hold fast that word
which I preached to you—unless you believed
in vain.

For I delivered to you first of all that which I
also received: that Christ died for our sins
according to the Scriptures, 4and that He was
buried, and that He rose again the third day
according to the Scriptures

What is the Gospel.
Moreover, brethren, I declare to you the gospel
which I preached to you, which also you

What is the Gospel?
Paul Tells Us The Gospel Is:
The DEATH, BURIAL and RESURECTION of Jesus.
That brings us to our next question for this morning

Why is the Gospel So
Important?
Let’s consider the positive first:
“For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ,
for it is the power of God to salvation for
everyone who believes, for the Jew first and also
for the Greek”
~ Roman 1:16
The Gospel Is God’s way of salvation!

Important?
Now consider the negative:
“and to give you who are troubled rest with us when the
Lord Jesus is revealed from heaven with His mighty
angels, 8in flaming fire taking vengeance on those who
do not know God, and on those who do not obey the
gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ. 9These shall be
punished with everlasting destruction from the presence
of the Lord …”
~ 2 Thessalonians 1:7-9

What Have We seen Then?
• The Gospel Is the DEATH, BURIAL and
RESURRECTION of Jesus.
• The Gospel is God’s Power to Save Man
•Obeying The Gospel Brings Salvation
•To Not Obey The Gospel Brings Everlasting
Destruction from the Presence of the Lord
So that brings us to our last question for this morning.

How Do I Obey The Gospel?
Remember Paul Told Us The Gospel Is:
The DEATH, BURIAL and RESURRECTION of Jesus.
How do you obey someone’s death?
Or burial? Or resurrection?

Remember What Jesus Said :

He Who Believes and is Baptized!

How Do I Obey The Gospel?
Why Did Jesus Include Baptism?
“Or do you not know that as many of us as were
baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into His
death? 4Therefore we were buried with Him through
baptism into death, that just as Christ was raised
from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we
also should walk in newness of life.” ~ Romans 6:3-4
Paul tells us when we are baptized into Christ, we come into contact
with the death burial and resurrection of Christ. We “re-enact” the
gospel through baptism.
