3. Introduction Major coastal risks – South East(SE) India : Cyclone, Flood, Storm, Tsunami, Earthquake, Drought. Cyclone : is an area of closed, circular fluid motion rotating in the same direction as the Earth Flood : is an overflow or accumulation of an expanse of water that submerges land Storm : is any disturbed state of an astronomical body's atmosphere, especially affecting its surface, and strongly implying severe weather. It may be marked by strong wind, thunder and lightning (a thunderstorm), heavy precipitation, such as ice (ice storm), or wind transporting some substance through the atmosphere (as in a dust storm, snowstorm, hailstorm, etc).

15. As of Friday, 29th May 2009, more than 100 people are reported dead and an estimated 3 million displaced from their homes by Cyclone Aila in southern West Bengal. In the Sundarban area, thousands of homes have been broken and people have taken shelter in nearby schools and Panchayat offices. There is an acute shortage of food, drinking water and clothes.
