8. Agro export India’s agro exports have shown an impressive growth in the last few years. Besides expansion in quantitative terms, these exports have been meeting new challenges of the world market amidst rising concerns of health and food safety. To quote APEDA’s Chairman AsitTripathy, India’s farm exports have gone up in value terms from a paltry figure of Rs 582 crore in 1986 to Rs. 36,000 crore. In the last decade alone, the figure has trebled while in the last five years, it has doubled. India’s agricultural output growth is expected to hit 5.4 percent for 2010-11 fiscal, according to official figures.
