A description of what facebook is and how to use it.

2. What is it?
Facebook is a social networking site. Users may
create a personal profile, add other users as friends
and exchange messages, including automatic
notifications when they update their profile. Users can
create profiles with photos, lists of personal interests,
contact information and other personal information.
Facebook currently has 500 million active members
from several countries all over the world.

3. History
The social networking website was launched in
February 2004 that is operated and privately owned by
Facebook, Inc. Facebook was founded by Mark
Zuckerberg with his college roommates and fellow
computer science students Eduardo Saverin, Dustin
Moskovitz and Chris Hughes. The website's
membership was initially limited by the founders to
Harvard students but has expanded to anyone over
thirteen years old.

4. Features
 Chat- users can chat with friends one on one in real
time.
 Facebook live- video channel created to keep users
update on the latest facebook news.
 Messages- capability to send messages to other
facebook users.
 Status updates- users can post messages about
themselves and other users can comment on it.
 Networks and Groups- groups can be created and
users can sign on to get updates on a particular event

5. Features Cont.
 Notifications- users are notified when someone writes on
their wall so they stay update at all times.
 Wall- a place on the users profile page where friends can
post comments to that person and others can read it.
 Events- allows users to let friends know about upcoming
events in their community.
 Photos- allows users to add photographs to their wall for
others to seen and comment on.
 Videos- videos can be added from facebook mobile or
webcam to be posted on the users wall for others to see.

6. Pro’s of Facebook
The instant capabilities to send information to family
and friends. It has become easier to keep in touch with
family and friends who live large distances away. It
allows you to connect with old friends you grew up
with. Facebook is users friendly in its easiness to use.
Businesses can place adds for there company on the
site and instantly millions of viewers see you business.

7. Controversies of Facebook
 Facebook has been banned at many places of work to
discourage employees from wasting time using the
service for social use and not work.
 Privacy has also been an issue, and the safety of their
users has been compromised several times, but these
issues have been resolved.
 There have been complaints of user accounts easily
being mistakenly disabled for violating the sites
statement of rights and responsibilities.
 Facebook has received complaints for its lack of live
support.
