2. OBJECTIVE
• To find resources on campus that can inform you more about the LGBT
community and how to get involved with support groups
• UNT is filled with people that can make you feel more comfortable and
safe on this campus and support those who are part of the LGBT
community.
3. WHAT IS LGBT/ SEXUAL IDENTITY?
• LGBT stands for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender
• There are many people that are confused with their sexual identity and
this comes from being influenced by friends, family, religion and media.
• UNT has many resources that can help bring people to terms with their
sexual identity.
5. FACTS:
1. 9 million LGBT live in the U.S. (3.8% of adult population)
2. If all 50 states accepted same sex marriage, the federal budget would
benefit by over $1 billion each year.
3. Approximately 1 million U.S. children are being raised by same sex
couples.
4. 83% of those in the military support those that are gay into the military
5. 70,000 same-sex couples have gotten married in the U.S.
6. 90,000 gays and lesbians have entered into the civil union and domestic
partnerships
7. 71,000 LGB are currently serving in the military and there are over 1
million LGB veterans in the United States.
