We are creating and testing eight iPad games and dozens of non-digital activities to teach and reinforce two math concepts - subitizing and equipartitioning.
Subitizing is being able to identify the number of items in a group without counting. In Birthday Café, children serve diners as platters pass by on a conveyor belt.
Equipartitioning, or fair sharing is dividing a whole or a collection of items equally. In Breakfast Time, children equipartition by sharing breakfast foods equally among plates.
Several of the games are collaborative and meant to be played in pairs. In Photo Friends, children take pictures of each other and work together to share items equally.
Cutting-edge technology allows teachers to monitor students’ progress through an interactive teacher’s guide.
In addition to the digital games, the NGPM curriculum includes dozens of non-digital activities that extend the math learning and promote collaborative play.
Hand-selected picture books integrate literacy and math learning while reinforcing concepts from the digital games.
Snack time activities infuse math into everyday routines.
Outdoor activities incorporate motion and physical activity into the math learning.
Our game designers and researchers make frequent visits to preschools to test every activity with children.
We work with fantastic teachers who help us understand what children need.
And we know we’re on the right track because we see countless moments of wonder, learning, and excitement such as these!
