and the play between figuration
and abstraction in painting and
sculpture. The artists include
Sophie Bartlett, Louise Davies,
Anita Gellatly, Charlotte Hardy,
Christy Keeney and Jane Muir.

3. Sophie Bartlett
Artist in Focus:
Sophie Bartlett
Balcony Gallery
Sophie Bartlett’s work encompasses
landscape, still life and figurative
subjects, and she describes it as
‘loosely impressionistic’. Though
much of her inspiration comes
from the countryside, she is
also fascinated by urban and
industrial landscapes as diverse as
cathedrals, construction sites and
dockyards. Sophie introduces colour
combinations remembered from
elsewhere into a current painting.
Sophie works with oils, as well as
watercolour, charcoal, ink and wax.

4. Amanda Hoskin
The Seasons of Cornwall
Amanda Hoskin

Foyer
Amanda Hoskin is inspired by the landscape is strong. Hoskin begins
Cornish landscape. From muted by painting and sketching in situ,
autumnal tones and winter snow then returns to the studio to work
to the bright riot of spring and the on larger paintings. As she says:

Kevin Wallhead’s modern glass
Focus:
designs include slumped bowls,
vessels and glass panels that
feature quirky stick figures. His

palette is simple and metal inclusions
of copper, aluminium, steel, sterling
silver and 24-carat gold all perform
Kevin Wallhead unpredictably in the kiln.

7. Pastel Society

Balcony Gallery
The Pastel Society, founded in 1898,
is widely recognised for its success in
promoting and encouraging the use
of pastel within the contemporary
art world. This exhibition presents
a selection of new work by the
members, all professional artists
living and working in this country
and overseas. Membership is

of technical skill, originality,
innovation and enthusiasm.
