- From the Gartner web site: “Gartner, Inc. (NYSE: IT) is the world's leading information technology research and advisory company.” Our CIO went to the Gartner Conference Autumn 2011 and on his return told Bonnie to purchase an iPad lab and start teaching people in OSU Extension about using iPads. The iPads arrived on November 2, 2011.
- After obtaining 11 iPads, Bonnie and Linda taught themselves how to use them. Basic iPad documentation was created and Bonnie started teaching the iPad class. The first class was in Licking County Ohio on February 10, 2012.
- Ohio Expanded Food & Nutrition Education Program (EFNEP) Conference.
- Regional Director and staff. These photos were taken with the iPad and emailed.
- You get to be a “Cool” kid – we all like to have the new geek toy and show it off.Easy to Purchase – purchased through the OSU eRequest to Apple Education. Delivered within days.Easy to learn – it was easy to learn how to use it for basic tasks. Light and stylish – it’s Apple!Fun – it has been fun to use.
- Everyone wants to “borrow” them – After a few bad experiences with people who wanted to borrow them, it was decided to tell people it is a training and not a lending lab.No funding to purchase Apps – We used our own money to purchase Apps. The one set of Apps that was purchased by my department became a nightmare (see Ugly).Few Apps for Extension – There does not seem to be many Apps for Extension. We are hoping you can help us with that.Little interest in formal iPad class – Bonnie set up training sessions on Campus and around the state, but the turnout was low and disappointing.Require as much care as Laptop lab – cleaning, software updates, App updates, and battery charging.
- Lack of OSUE policy for purchase of Apps – after many many emails and conversations it was decided that we could not use iTunes cards purchased with a University PCard that we should….Purchase of Apps on University Pcard – this created a problem with taxes. Not being able to “share” – feel guilty that we are not able to “share” them or get more people to trainingIs 10 to many or to few – for most trainings 10 has been too many, but for other trainings 10 has been too few (EFNEP Conference or J Thomas class)iPad 3 – we had only had them a short time when the iPad 3 came out. How long will they be relevant?
