Introducing...... Moodle!
• Moodle is an alternative to proprietary
commercial online learning solutions, and
is distributed free under open source
licensing. An organization has complete
access to the source code and can make
changes if needed. Moodle‟s modular
design makes it easy to create new
courses, adding content that will engage
learners.
Introduction
 Moodle is as interactive and helpful to teaching
and learning as you allow it to be.
 You have to think creatively to allow it to be of
full use to you and your students.
 Let the Moodle Learning Management System
be your 365/24/7 teaching and learning aid.
 Request new Moodle courses from the VSR.
What Is Moodle??
• Moodle is an e-learning software.
• Modular
• Object
• Oriented
• Dynamic
• Learning
• Environment
Features of Moodle
 A teacher role has full control over all settings for a
course, including adding other teachers
 Students log into Moodle and enroll themselves to a
course
 Choice of course formats such as by week, by topic or a
discussion-focussed social format
 Flexible array of course activities - Forums, Quizzes,
Glossaries, Resources, Choices, Surveys, Assignments,
Chats, Workshops
 Recent changes to the course since the last login can be
displayed on the course home page - helps give sense
of community
 Most text entry areas (resources, forum postings etc.)
can be edited using an embedded editor
Course Management Features
- Modules
Assignment
Used to assign online or offline tasks; learners can submit tasks in any file
format (e.g. MS Office, PDF, image, a/v etc.).
Chat
Allows real-time synchronous communication by learners.
Choice
Instructors create a question and a number
of choices for learners; results are posted
for learners to view. Use this module to
do quick surveys on subject matter.
Dialogue
Allows for one-to-one asynchronous message exchange between instructor
and learner, or learner to learner.
Course Management Features
- Modules
Forums
Threaded discussion boards for asynchronous group exchange on shared
subject matter. Participation in forums can be an integral part of the learning
experience, helping students define and evolve their understanding of
subject matter.
Course Management Features
- Modules
• Quiz
Create all the familiar forms of assessment including true-false, multiple choice, short
answer, matching question, random questions, numerical questions, embedded
answer questions with descriptive text and graphics.
Course Management Features
- Modules
Glossary
Create a glossary of terms used in a
course. Has display format options
including entry list, encyclopaedia,
FAQ, dictionary style and more.
Journal
Learners reflect, record and revise
ideas.
Label
Add descriptions with images in any
area of the course homepage.
Lesson
Allows instructor to create and
manage a set of linked "Pages". Each
page can end with a question. The
student chooses one answer from a
set of answers and either goes
forward, backward or stays in the
same place in the lesson.
Course Management Features
- ModulesResource
The primary tool for bringing content into a
course; may be plain text, uploaded files,
links to the web, Wiki or Rich Text (Moodle
has built-in text editors) or a bibliography
type reference.
Survey
This module aids an instructor in making
online classes more effective by offering a
variety of surveys (COLLES, ATTLS),
including critical incident sampling.
Workshop
An activity for peer assessment of
documents (Word, PP etc.) that students
submit online. Participants can assess each
other‟s project. Teacher makes final student
assessment, and can control opening and
closing periods.
Learner Management
Features - Files
• Centrally locate all course resources within
the Files area of Moodle so they are
available when creating new activities.
Learner Management
Features - Help
• An extensive Moodle Help file is a button click away.
Courses include a Teacher only forum, where colleagues
can collaborate on tasks and share ideas.
Calendar and Events
• Keeping a calendar of events is important to both the learner and
course instructor.
• Global events that appear in all courses (admin)
• Course events set by an instructor
• Group events set by instructor relative only to a group
• User events set by learner (e.g. due dates, personal etc.).
• Upcoming Events appear on the course homepage, alerting the
learner across all courses they are enrolled in of different category
events.
• Alerts are color-coded by category.
Grades
• The Grades feature in Moodle provides a quick view of
all Forum, Assignment, Wiki and Quiz grades.
• The grading scale applied to a learner‟s submission is
shown, along with a cumulative total, on a single page.
• Grades can be downloaded in Excel or plain text for
inclusion into an existing electronic grade book
• Single page to grades and view all student enrolled
• Choose a Grade Category for:
• Assignments, Homework's, Projects
• Rating in Forums
• Literally Grades
Logs and Reports
• Track all activity of each Student
• Check IP
• Check how many Student get a resource
or an activity
Editing Mode
Advantages
 known as blended learning face-to-face courses
.
 Activity modules (such as fórums, data bases
and wikis)
 Moodle as a way to deliver content to students
(such as standard SCORM packages) and
assess learning using assignments or quizzes.
 Moodle is free to Down load and registration is
voluntary
Disadvantages
• Sophisticated assessment and grading capabilities.
• The ability to use a distributed administration model to
support multiple “schools” and “departments”
• Jacob Williams: It has great support for working in
any language, but it does not have great tools for
managing content that is in multiple languages in
parallel.
How to create Moodle?
• Install Wampserver
• Install Moodle 2.3.8 or 2.5.8
• Copy moodle folder in WWW folder in Wamp
folder which is in Local disk C:
• Copy msvcr100.dll file in System 32 in local

computer is 64 bit.
 extract the moodle 2.5.1 and copy the files
from the folder.
 create a folder in C:>wamp>www and paste
the files in user created folder.
After Installing Wamp server then
click on the quick launch icon of Wampserver
Then click on local host.
As shown in the picture.
•
• Wampserver Homepage
• Do the required installation settings.
• Wamp server will check for any errors
;if any enable the required PHP setting

very easily
• By turning the editing on
• My Home Page
WHAT I LEARNT FROM
MOODLE
• I learnt that through Moodle we can actually create a
e-learning course through which we can add lot
many information, updates, lessons, interactive
sessions, etc. online which is helpful for every
student.
• Even if he misses the class he/she can cop-up with
the help of this.
• It is also used in company's for interacting and
helping the co-workers even at home to complete
tasks, projects and lots of things
• It makes the job of the user more easy hence its
completely useful.
• You can create assignments like this.
• You can create chat application.
• You can create quiz module
• You can create Database etc.
• Students learn from each other as well as the
teacher.
• Students learn better by doing.
• Allowing and creating opportunities for all to
have a voice promote the construction of new
ideas.
• For all these to be practised practically E-
learning via features of moodle is the best
option.
• Moodle„s slow cost, flexibility resources.
• Moodle is a fine example of how and why open source
Works.
• Enhance active learning. Moodle's active discusión
fórums, sharing tips, helping new users, and sharing
resources
• Parents can have Access to their students grades and
