6. Step 1 of the Activity You will begin this activity by reading the first 7 chapters of A Week in the Woods by Andrew Clements, pages 1-52. After you complete the reading then your activity will be to write a one page summary of a time when you had to do something that you did not want to do and how it made you feel. Tell how it relates to what Mark had to do in the story and how he felt.
7. Step 2 of the Activity You will now continue reading chapters 8-13, pages 52-110. Let’s pretend that you are spending a week in the woods. I would like for you to make a list of things you would need to survive a week in the woods. Do not forget the most important, your necessities and then go from there.
8. Step 2 Activity Continuation I would like you to answer the following questions after completing your list. Do you think Mark packed everything he will need for camp? What else should he have packed?
9. Step 3 of the Activity Finish reading the book, chapters 14-22, pages 111-190. When you have completed the reading I would like you to visit the website www.enature.com and view some of the animals you might come into contact with if you were spending a week in the woods. If you do not have access to a computer make up a list of animals that you know live in our area.
10. Assessment of the Activity You will need to answer the following questions. What do humans need to survive? If you were stranded in the woods and did not have food, water, or shelter what are some things you can do to get these things? Do animals need the same things to survive as humans? How do animals get the things they need to survive
