2. Long Haul
• Long Haul truck driving
is most often known as
Over-The-Road, or
OTR.
• OTR drivers are out on
the road for 3 to 4
weeks at a time.
• OTR Drivers see the
country, as many of
their loads need to be
delivered thousands of
miles away.
3. Local Driving
• Local truck driving jobs
keep the truck driver
close to where they
reside.
• Local truck drivers are
only out on the road for
a week at a time, at the
most. More often than
not, they are home
every night.
4. One vs. the Other
• OTR drivers travel
more, and see more
of the country
• OTR drivers are
home every 3 to 4
weeks
• Employers require
less experience for
OTR positions
• Local drivers travel
less, and only see
their home state
• Local drivers are
home every day, if
not every week
• Employers require
more experience for
local positions
5. So, Which One is Better?
• It really depends on
what you’re looking
for. If you have a
family, you may
want to be home
more often, and a
local job is for you. If
you want to travel,
OTR is for you.
